Author of *La Vie et l'Oeuvre de Louis Braille*, a Braille biography
published around 1952 — the centenary of Braille's death and the year his
remains were transferred to the Panthéon. Confirmed at Tier 1 (a 2024
recorded interview with historian Philippa Campsie, and the abstract of her
peer-reviewed article) as one of two prior accounts — with Alexandre-René
Pignier's 1859 retirement memoir — that Campsie's research identifies as
distorting the historical record of Charles Barbier and Louis Braille. He
is the still-unresolved half of the vault's transmission-chain question: the
specific allegation that he floated a hedged military-origin speculation
later popularized without the hedge by Coupvray historian Jean Roblin has
not been confirmed at the primary level — the pages that would carry it
(dsq-sds.org, perkins.org/braille-barbier) were behind bot-check walls on
every attempt as of 2026-07.
