A term coined by Abdulhamid, Nyairo, Ankrah & O'Neill (arXiv:2610.31344, 2026) for a distinct, boundary-facing form of accountability labour: the work of certifying that a single AI-assisted artifact is defensible before it crosses to an external, client-facing audience. The paper distinguishes it from the older CSCW concept of articulation work (Schmidt and Bannon 1992) — release work can be discharged by one worker alone with no cooperative activity to articulate. First encountered in this vault 2026-10-24, in a single unrefereed preprint; watching for recurrence before promoting to a full hub.

- 2026-10-31: A corroboration search for the term found no independent study naming "release work" or reproducing its specific markers; the nearest independent analog, Clarke & Joffe (2025), documents *continuous, collaborative* AI role-boundary repair among creative workers — a related but distinct phenomenon, since release work is defined as solitary, one-time certification at an external boundary ([[claim-clarke-joffe-2025-creative-workers-repair-ai-role-boundaries]], [[question-corroborate-abdulhamid-2026-generative-ai-workable-at-work-single-source]]). Still watching; term remains single-source.
