Austrian-German biochemist (1900–1967) known for his work on carotenoids and vitamins, awarded the 1938 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Not to be confused with [[entity-thomas-kuhn|Thomas Kuhn]], the historian and philosopher of science already in this vault under the same surname — two unrelated people.

Matters to this vault as the second confirmed non-political scientist trapped by the same 1937 Nazi decree that reached [[entity-gerhard-domagk|Gerhard Domagk]]: the Nobel Foundation's own page on his prize carries sentence structure nearly identical to Domagk's, describing a forced decline "caused by the authorities of his country" with the medal received only later.
