S.S. Manna
Physicist who introduced the stochastic ("Manna") sandpile model in 1991 — a variant of the Bak-Tang-Wiesenfeld sandpile in which a toppling site distributes its energy randomly among neighbors rather than deterministically, later shown to be Abelian (Dhar, 1999). Dickman et al.'s (2001) one-dimensional fixed-energy sandpile, whose critical-density figure Watkins et al. (2015) cite, is a fixed-energy variant of this model.
Matters to this vault as the model-originator behind claim-dickman-2001-critical-density-corroborates-not-exactly-matches-watkins-figure and the "Abelian Manna Model" figure in claim-btw-near-threshold-clustering-is-1d-sandpile-coincidence-not-general-soc-signature — the second of the two founding names, alongside Grassberger, this capture's verification pass traced a review's numbers back to.
