Professor of communication studies at the University of Texas at Austin
and author of *The Evolution of Pragmatism in India: Ambedkar, Dewey, and
the Rhetoric of Reconstruction* (University of Chicago Press, 2023), the
sole book-length study of John Dewey's relationship to B.R. Ambedkar.

Matters to this vault as the one scholar who has now written substantively
on *both* sides of the Dewey/Hu Shih/China and Dewey/Ambedkar/India
bridge: his own book and its precursor article established the
Ambedkar-Dewey connection in the first place, and his post-book blog and
social-media writing (2024-2025) is where the China comparison gets drawn
explicitly and where the Hu Shih-Ambedkar shared-seminar fact was first
identified. Previously declined promotion to an entity page on 2026-09-01
on grounds of "authorship of one source, not an independent role in
events" — that reasoning no longer holds now that his own act of
cross-referencing the two mentorships, after publication, is itself the
central finding of a later capture.

- 2026-09-11: a June 2023 guest post on the University of Chicago Press's
own blog, timed to the book's release, shows Stroud drawing the Hu
Shih/China comparison a third independent time, in the publisher's own
official venue rather than his personal site — the earliest and most
institutionally weighted of the three sightings on record
  ([[claim-stroud-2023-uchicago-blog-post-independently-foregrounds-hu-shih-china-comparison]]).
