Curator of The World of Playing Cards (wopc.co.uk), a named playing-card historian's
own reference site. His page on Mamluk playing cards is the vault's Tier 2 corroboration
that the 13th–15th c. Mamluk deck's four suits (coins, cups, swords, polo-sticks) exist
and that the polo-sticks suit reflected the game's popularity among the Mamluk elite —
independent of, but not itself confirming, the Wikipedia-sourced claim that the suit
symbol was later misread twice ([[claim-mamluk-card-suit-renamed-twice-coins-polo-sticks-batons]]).
