Name shared by two distinct, unrelated 2001 Microsoft features that are easy to conflate in casual retelling: a browser feature in Internet Explorer 6 that auto-linked recognized words on any web page (pulled after publisher backlash over who controls a page's content), and a separate Office XP SDK feature that let developers define custom data types for Office documents to recognize and tag (which shipped, then faded because, per Jeff Reynar, "developers turned out not to be good at identifying those types" needed to populate its schema).

First encountered by the vault as a disambiguation problem: a contemporaneous 2001 record exists of the browser feature's failure, but it was nearly mistaken for corroboration of the Office SDK's separate, schema-design failure — the actual subject of [[claim-reynar-three-2001-2005-knowledge-systems-died-on-schema-population-maintenance]]. Stub only — stamping `first_seen` now since it can't be backfilled later; watching whether the ambiguity recurs.
