Tirzah Kaufherr
Israeli physicist in Tel Aviv University's Quantum Information Group, whose 1981 PhD thesis at the University of South Carolina — "Quantum Frames of Reference" — and subsequent papers co-authored with her doctoral advisor Yakir Aharonov developed the concept of physical quantum reference frames. Her own faculty page lists the thesis alongside a 1983 Tokyo symposium paper and the 1984 Phys. Rev. D paper under the identical title, plus an earlier 1974 TAU M.Sc. thesis and later papers with Aharonov, Nussinov, Popescu, Reznik, Tollaksen, Casher, and Markovitch not yet examined by the vault.
In the vault she matters as more than a co-author line: her solo-authored 1981 thesis, read directly from her own Tier-1 faculty page, is the only source independent of Aharonov's own 2026 oral-history recollection for the claim that substantive "quantum frames of reference" work predates the 1984 journal paper — see claim-kaufherr-1981-phd-thesis-predates-1984-journal-paper-by-three-years. That independence is what gives the broader priority-dating thread in claim-aharonov-quantum-frames-of-reference-work-predated-1973-1984-publication-by-decade corroborating weight rather than resting on a single memoir alone. The "Tamir Kaufherr" spelling in Aharonov's interview transcript appears to be a transcription slip for the same person; unresolved as of this writing.

2026-10-25: promoted from mention to hub — her 1981 PhD thesis is solo-authored work the vault treats as a load-bearing independent corroboration, not merely a joint paper with Aharonov, clearing the 2026-10-01 co-authorship-alone ruling. Her faculty page's
