Associate professor, School of Journalism and Communication, Peking University, whose research spans media history, Cold War history, the information society, and labor studies.

Matters to this vault as the author of the single primary two independent English-language secondary accounts — Wikipedia and Gary Zhexi Zhang's 2025 essay — both cite, via footnote, for the contested claim that [[entity-qian-xuesen|Qian Xuesen]] personally recruited [[entity-guan-zhaozhi|Guan Zhaozhi]] and [[entity-song-jian|Song Jian]] to found China's 1962 cybernetics laboratory. His chapter "Five Moments in the History of Chinese Cybernetics" (translated by Allen Young, in *Machine Decision Is Not Final*, Urbanomic/MIT Press, 2025) went unread by the vault for two sessions before an MIT Press Reader excerpt was located and read directly, settling the dispute largely in Wikipedia's favor while also surfacing a new discrepancy in the earlier institutional history ([[claim-wang-hongzhe-primary-confirms-qian-recruited-guan-and-song-1962-lab]], [[claim-wang-hongzhe-dates-qian-1956-operations-research-group-separate-from-1962-lab]]).
