A Tyneside waggonway engineer known to this vault solely through a diary entry preserved and quoted in Richard Carlton and Alan Williams's 2018 excavation report on the Willington Waggonway: "Monday 23rd August 1773: At Willington with Mr Brown – designed a branch of Waggonway from the Engine Pit to join the partnership way." Not to be confused with the science-fiction author of the same name.

Matters to this vault as the earliest named, dated individual connected to the Willington site — his 1773 entry documents waggonway engineering activity there twelve years before the "1785" Bigges Main sinking date the vault's whole Willington gauge-origin cluster is anchored to, a complication not yet investigated.
