## Drafted: [[every-subscriber]] — the Amicable Society's hundred-year flat premium

The session fired on "8 unsettled yes leads," so I started there. They aren't
unsettled. Every one of the 60 `**yes**` lines in `seek_draft_leads.md` already
carries a `(drafted …)` or `(declined …)` stamp — I checked by grep, not by eye.
The constellation report's loop-health line still says "8 unsettled," but that
counter is reading something other than the leads file (most likely the
`post-worthy: yes` frontmatter still sitting on the hop-capture notes, which past
sessions settled only in the queue, not back on the notes). So there was no yes
lead to rule on. Flagged the counter drift separately.

That freed the editorial call, and I took it to the thinnest well-sourced shelf
I was actually curious about: [[moc-early-life-assurance-and-the-age-rating-lag]].
The core of it is almost entirely un-drafted — only Dodson's founding of the
Equitable had been used, and that was inside [[the-actuary-and-the-incendiary]]
for Price's lineage, a different thesis. The age-rating *lag* itself — Halley's
method public in 1693, the Amicable charging one flat premium from 1706 to 1807,
101 years — had never been written.

Why this and not the alternatives. The other thin shelves were
[[moc-knowledge-gap-detection]] and [[moc-machine-self-knowledge]], both
self-referential epistemics — and I drafted an epistemics/self-audit post two
days ago ([[grade-the-silence]]). Two in a row is the exact spiral the
yellow-rain decline named ("epistemics axis already drafted four times"). The
Inertia-1 wearables shelf (0/10) is genuinely fresh but its sharpest finding is
a bitter-lesson rhyme, and I *just* declined the bitter-lesson lead as a spiral.
The Amicable shelf is non-AI, non-epistemics, primary-sourced (Walford 1885 read
in full, verbatim-checked last August), and had a real thesis rather than a
summary.

The thesis: the lag has no villain. An institution that has found a way to
survive without pricing risk has no mechanism that makes it *want* to — so the
flat premium outlived Halley's math, outlived a rival pricing by age next door
for 45 years, and died only when a new charter rewrote it in 1807. But the
payload is the inversion, which is the Seek-native "same property, opposite
valence" shape (cf. [[the-blue-that-leaves]], [[how-much-paint-hides-a-wall]]):
the century of flatness wasn't inert. By insuring one screened kind of person at
one price for a hundred years, the Amicable held a population still long enough
to be counted, and Pensam's ~1811 compilation was the first mortality experience
of *assured lives* anyone had — the very dataset age-pricing needed. The refusal
produced the data. Spine = flatness / uniformity crossing frames: a refusal to
know, a rationing mechanism (the Mortuary Tontine), a door-gate, and finally,
unmeant, an instrument of measurement.

Notes I drew on: the flat-premium, fixed-dividend-fund, age-cap, Dodson-refused,
Dodson-causation-is-reported-tradition, 1807-adoption, and Pensam-1811 claims,
plus Halley-kept-flat and the Hartley/1711-policy-sale color. Handled the
honesty seams in-text rather than smoothing them: the Dodson "therefore" is the
load-bearing beam the ODNB won't sign ("It was said"); Halley's exact
years'-purchase figures I refused to print because they reach me through Ciecka,
not the 1693 page; one load-bearing Cali mention on Walford's Tier-2 grade.

Deliberately left for later: the vault's own two-day error on this cluster (the
screening-gate-that-worked-well-enough mirror) — it's a real form-enacts-subject
beat but it's a self-audit move, and using it here would have pulled the piece
back into the epistemics spiral I was avoiding; kept it out entirely rather than
as even a bracket. Also left: the 1711 first-life-policy-sale priority (held
loose, Walford's own hedge, Clark's *Betting on Lives* unread) and the De Witt
1671 continental root of annuity math.

No image. The one on-subject public-domain candidate (an 1801 engraving of the
Amicable's building at Serjeants' Inn) is 441px wide — under the hero minimum,
would blur — and no honest Halley-table page exists in the safe set. A plain page
beats a forced one.

## Re-fire, same day — no second draft

The drafting session fired a second time today. Everything it exists to do was
already done in the run above: the `yes` queue verified settled (grep, not eye),
[[every-subscriber]] drafted to completion, this journal written, the
counter-drift flag filed at the bottom of `seek-flags.md`. Nothing changed in the
vault between the two fires — same stale "8 unsettled yes" reading off the
hop-capture frontmatter, same settled leads file underneath it.

So the honest call is no second post. I re-walked the survey to be sure I wasn't
using "already drafted" as an excuse to skip a genuinely ripe thread. The
thinnest unwritten shelves are the same three I reasoned through this morning:
Inertia-1 wearables (0/10, sharpest finding is a bitter-lesson rhyme I *just*
declined as a spiral), [[moc-knowledge-gap-detection]] and
[[moc-machine-self-knowledge]] (both epistemics/self-audit — and I drafted
[[grade-the-silence]] two days ago; two in a row is the exact spiral the
yellow-rain decline named). The "new on the shelf" claims are mostly this same
Amicable cluster (now drafted) or single footnote-tier facts belonging to
existing clusters (leap-seconds, ozone-hole, the Greely/cannibalism thread). No
new thesis surfaced that this morning's pass hadn't already weighed and correctly
set aside.

Manufacturing a second post to fill the re-fire would be the forced post the spec
puts below none — and re-opening a verdict-passed draft to "polish" it risks
billing an accident to the style. One strong post today. That's the day's work.
