Ran a headless promotion pass on one capture:
`10-inbox/raw/2026-10-05-what-genuinely-connects-greenhalghs-2003-pdr-article-carries.md`
— a bridge-seed session checking whether the "no-1976-parallel/pp.185-186"
claim and the "1976-predates-1978 vs June-1978, landlord-not-argument"
observation actually connect, or just look related on cosine.

They connect, but only at the textual level. Retrieve-before-write turned
up that the exact paragraph-sharing fact underneath this capture's first
claim was already on file — a 2026-09-09 note had established it for a
*different* pair of notes quoting the same two sentences. So I folded that
into supporting context rather than writing a duplicate claim. What was
actually new was the specific pairing of *these* two notes, never checked
against each other before, plus the capture's own observation that the
overlap sharpens an asymmetry the landlord-not-argument note had already
asserted but not illustrated this precisely. Per the "atomic is not many"
ruling, I merged the capture's claims 2 and 3 (same finding, one caveat)
into a single note rather than splitting them:

- [[observation-greenhalgh-no-1976-parallel-claim-and-landlord-not-argument-observation-share-one-paragraph]]

No new questions routed — the capture carried no `[unverified-*]` flag,
Tier 1 sourcing throughout with exact quotes, and the two open questions it
points at (reading Li Xiuzhen 1980, resolving the Song Jian 1975-vs-1978
dating dispute) were already open and this capture doesn't close either.
It also didn't originate from an open question, so there was no question
to rule on.

Entity candidates: all four (Susan Greenhalgh, Song Jian's 1986 essay,
Geert Jan Olsder, Li Xiuzhen) already have hub pages. Greenhalgh's and the
1986-essay's pages got a dated append for the new finding; Olsder's and Li
Xiuzhen's didn't need one — the capture says nothing about them the pages
don't already say ("untouched," "still unread"), and I checked both pages
directly before deciding that rather than assuming it from the capture's
own framing.

Skipped per the autonomous-operation brief: the pause-for-Cali step (no one
here to ask — winnowed on my own judgment, logged the reasoning in the
capture's `not_promoted:` list instead) and any git command (the
auto-commit agent handles that within 15 minutes).

What felt off: nothing structurally wrong with this capture — sourcing was
clean, tier-1, quotes verbatim, no safety flags, no inflation. But it's the
fifth session in this exact cluster to independently re-confirm "real
connection, wrong shape" against the same thirty-four-page PDF, and the
first claim it contained was *already* a re-derivation of an existing
note's finding under a new label. I don't think this one was wasted — the
specific pairing was new — but the cluster is dense enough now that a
future bridge-seed session checking yet another pairing from this same
paragraph should expect to find supporting facts already on file, and
should budget for folding rather than re-deriving before assuming it has
something new.

## Second promotion pass, same day

Promoted a second capture this session:
`10-inbox/raw/2026-10-05-what-genuinely-connects-liang-zhongtangs-own-2009-essay.md`
— a bridge-seed check of the pairing between
[[claim-liang-zhongtang-2009-rejects-song-jian-causal-self-credit]] and
[[claim-olsder-1975-account-is-2008-retrospective-reconstruction]], at
cosine 0.88, never tested against each other before even though both
claims had each separately been tested against other members of this same
cluster.

Verdict: false friend, the cluster's third. The capture made three
separate-looking arguments for it (no shared actors/institutions; same
narrative-shape pattern as two prior confirmed false friends; no shared
rhetorical target), but per the "atomic is not many" ruling these are one
finding with its caveat and its method, not three — so I wrote one note:

- [[observation-liang-causal-credit-olsder-retrospective-reconstruction-cosine-pairing-is-embedding-false-friend]]

Retrieve-before-write turned up no collision — the twelve related notes
the semantic index surfaced all tested *different* pairings in this
cluster (Liang-vs-Forrester, Liang-vs-Song-self-report, Liang-1979-vs-
Olsder-1975, Olsder-vs-Greenhalgh-2003-narrative-structure…), confirming
the capture's own bridge-seed note that this exact pair was genuinely
untested. The note inherits two standing flags rather than introducing new
ones — `[unverified-translation]` on the Liang sentence (routed, as
before, to [[question-verify-liang-zhongtang-2009-essay-translation]],
where I logged this as a third reuse of the same passage, not a new
surface) and `[unverified-historical — needs primary]` on Olsder's own
2008-realization story (routed to
[[question-verify-song-jian-1975-twente-delegation-visit]], already open
and not meaningfully advanced by this capture, so I left it as is rather
than forcing a progress line that would say nothing new).

Entity work: all five candidates (Song Jian, Greenhalgh, Olsder, Liang,
Kwakernaak) already have hub pages. I read all five before deciding, and
four got a dated append — Song Jian's, Olsder's, Liang's, and Greenhalgh's
pages each say something the old text didn't: specifically, that this
false-friend verdict is sharper than the cluster's first two because
Olsder's own declined-credit posture means there was never a claim on his
side for Liang's timing argument to rebut. Kwakernaak's page I left alone
— the capture confirms he's absent from Liang's essay too, but his page
already carries that exact "confirmed absent" pattern from other sessions
and this adds no new fact, just a third instance of a fact already
recorded.

What felt off, and what I fixed rather than just noted: Cali's own review
comment on this capture (dated 2026-10-05, sitting right in the
frontmatter) had already caught two small things before I even started —
an unreceipted "five months after *Just One Child* (2008)" gap-figure with
no source for the month, and a self-contradicting "freshly fetched... cache
hit" in the Safety flags section. Both are easy to let ride into a
promoted note because they read as harmless color, and both are exactly
the kind of soft overclaim that compounds if nobody catches it at the
chokepoint. I didn't carry either into the new note — dropped the "five
months" precision entirely (the note now just says the essay postdates the
book) and described the U-Today access as a cache hit, not a fresh fetch.
Also skipped, correctly I think: the capture's further-lead about the
two-column PDF extraction bug not actually being fixed for this document,
despite `sources.md`'s "now fixed" wording — Cali already took ownership
of that exact wording in her own comment ("that wording is Cali's to
change"), so flagging it again to `seek-flags.md` would just be me
restating something she's already seen and claimed. Logged it here
instead, for the record, not the ledger.

No question to rule on — this capture didn't originate from an open
question, it originated from a scheduled bridge-seed pairing.

Skipped per the autonomous-operation brief: the pause-for-Cali step and
any git command, same reasoning as the first pass above.

## Third promotion pass, same day

Promoted a third capture:
`10-inbox/raw/2026-10-06-bipartite-ml-ai-epistemology-no-standalone-1969-first-edition-scan.md`
— a bridge-seed check of the pairing between
[[claim-perceptrons-1969-standalone-scan-not-freely-available]] and
[[claim-merton-1957-full-text-read-finds-no-mention-of-ranke-quellenkritik]]
at cosine 0.857.

Three claims, three notes, one of them substantially rewritten:

- [[observation-perceptrons-scan-merton-1957-cosine-pairing-is-false-friend-sharper-instance-elsewhere]]
  — the seed pair itself: false friend, same verdict the capture reached,
promoted close to as drafted. `vault_bridge` found a tighter false-friend
instance one hop over (the Perceptrons-scan note against an existing
Merton-1968-scan note), which is the more interesting residue and is what
  the note's title leads with.
- [[claim-olazaran-1993-cites-both-perceptrons-editions-and-mertons-priority-corpus]]
  — the capture's genuine find: Olazaran's 1993 sociological history of the
Perceptrons controversy, already the vault's primary source for that
story, cites both *Perceptrons* editions and Merton's 1961/1973
priority-dispute corpus in one bibliography. Promoted as drafted.
- [[claim-olazaran-1993-applies-merton-multiple-discovery-to-werbos-not-perceptrons-dispute]]
  — NOT what the capture drafted. This is where the session's real work was.

The capture's own third claim said Merton's presence in Olazaran's chapter
was "peripheral... nothing in the chapter's argument is built on Merton's
account" — Collins' controversy-closure framework does the actual work,
Merton just sits in the bibliography. Cali's daily-review callout, sitting
right in the capture's frontmatter, directly contradicts this: she read
the same archived PDF (same sha) at p.396 and found Olazaran quoting and
footnoting Merton's multiple-discovery thesis *in-argument*, applied to
Paul Werbos's priority claim on backpropagation — not the Perceptrons
dispute the capture's own investigation was about, but a real, specific,
page-and-footnote application all the same. I did not re-fetch anything
(no network in promotion, by design) but Cali's quote is specific enough,
and the sha specific enough, that I trust it over the capture's own
"peripheral" read. So I did not promote Claim 3 as drafted at all — I wrote
the corrected finding instead, which is also the better find: it's a
first-in-vault instance of Merton's multiple-discovery concept applied in
print to a named AI-history priority dispute, something a "Further leads"
bullet in this same capture had flagged as an open question and which this
correction answers outright. I also folded in Cali's two smaller catches
rather than let them ride: Collins' EPOR is the Bath School, not Edinburgh
(Edinburgh is the Strong Programme — a real factual error the capture would
otherwise have shipped), and I dropped the capture's unsourced "SSK
developed as an alternative to Merton" aside instead of carrying it forward
uncited.

Entity work: Harry Collins had no page despite being the actual named
framework behind the vault's own Perceptrons-controversy primary source —
real, load-bearing, one-sentence why — so I gave him a hub
([[entity-harry-collins]]), not a stub; this isn't an emerging term, it's
an established sociologist whose book the chapter names outright. Merton's
and Olazaran's pages already existed and both got a dated append for what
this capture actually taught them (the citation, and the Werbos
application) rather than a skip. Rosenblatt, Minsky, and Papert's pages
already exist and I left them alone — the capture names them only as
principals of a dispute their pages already cover, nothing new to say.

Not routed to a question: the "further lead" about Merton's multiple-
discovery concept being applied to an AI priority dispute was answered
within this same promotion, so no question needed. The 1996 Social Studies
of Science cross-check and the Merton-1957/Rosenblatt-1958 same-year
coincidence are both logged in `not_promoted` as acknowledged leftovers,
not routed — neither is a load-bearing doubt a kept claim rests on, just a
nice-to-verify and an explicit non-finding.

What felt off: this is the second capture in two days (after this
afternoon's Liang/Olsder promotion above) where Cali's own daily-review
comment caught something load-bearing before I started, and this time it
wasn't a soft overclaim — it was a flat factual contradiction of the
capture's stated verdict, sitting in a capture that would otherwise have
promoted a wrong claim with clean Tier-1 sourcing and a plausible-sounding
"peripheral, not load-bearing" framing. Nothing in the sourcing discipline
would have caught it; only someone actually reading page 396 did. I also
flagged a genuine spec tension I noticed doing this, not this capture's to
resolve: `promote.md`'s 5a says vault-search/embedding claims belong in
`50-questions/`, not `30-notes/`, but the vault has ~35 live
"cosine-pairing-is-embedding-false-friend" notes in `30-notes/`, several
newer than the ruling. I promoted this capture's false-friend claim as a
30-notes observation anyway, on the read that 5a means something narrower
than it literally says — logged to `00-meta/seek-flags.md` as `[spec]`
rather than silently picking a side.

No question to rule on — this capture didn't originate from an open
question (it's a scheduled bridge-seed pairing); the one existing question
it mentions in passing
([[question-verify-diplomatics-to-priority-adjudication-descent]]) is
explicitly not advanced by this capture, by the capture's own honest
admission, and I left it untouched rather than force a progress line with
nothing in it.

Skipped per the autonomous-operation brief: the pause-for-Cali step and
any git command, same reasoning as the passes above.

## Fourth promotion pass, same day

Promoted a fourth capture:
`10-inbox/raw/2026-10-06-do-sherman-kents-own-1941-writing-history-and.md`
— nominally a fresh check of whether Kent's own 1941 *Writing History* and
1949 *Strategic Intelligence* name Langlois, Seignobos, Bernheim, or
Mabillon. Cali's own review callout, sitting right in this capture's
frontmatter, said most of what I needed to know before I opened a single
other file: this repeats the 10-03 capture from three days ago, which
promoted that same morning into three claim-notes
([[claim-kent-1941-writing-history-names-bernheim-and-langlois-seignobos-by-name]],
[[claim-kent-1941-writing-history-builds-chapter-one-vocabulary-on-bernheims-named-four-step-schema]],
[[claim-kent-1941-writing-history-names-diplomatics-via-bauers-recommended-successor-text]])
and the [[entity-ernst-bernheim]] hub, and closed the governing question
([[question-verify-kent-writing-history-cites-historical-criticism-tradition]],
now sitting in `50-questions/_answered/`) with an `answered_log` entry and
a Correction history block on
[[observation-sherman-kent-historian-training-partial-lineage-into-cia-tradecraft]].
I read both captures and all four downstream notes directly rather than
taking Cali's word for it, and she's right: all four of this capture's
"Claim:" sections are either exact duplicates of already-promoted notes,
or — for the Mabillon/Preserved-Smith namecheck — a word-for-word rerun of
a judgment the 10-03 capture's own promotion already made and recorded as
"too thin to carry a claim of its own." I agreed with that prior call
again rather than relitigating it, and promoted **zero new claim-notes**.

The capture's only genuinely new material was a handful of further
leads — a full, untruncated 136-page PDF fetch of the archive.org item
(resolving a tooling quirk Cali had already discharged in `seek-flags.md`
the same day), a Scoblic 2018 TNSR silence on the naming question ("not
conclusive" by the capture's own admission), and a CIA 1972 internal essay
that confirms an unrelated epigraph but says nothing about this question —
none load-bearing for any claim, so none promoted and none routed to
`50-questions/`. Entity candidates (Langlois, Seignobos, the book itself,
Preserved Smith's book, Scoblic) all got the same no-hub call the sibling
capture already made, for the same reasons (co-authorship alone isn't
standing; single mentions aren't recurrence). I checked the Sherman Kent
and Ernst Bernheim hubs directly before deciding not to touch them — this
capture doesn't tell either page anything it doesn't already say.

What felt off: this is the one that actually bothers me today. Not the
duplication itself — Cali's callout caught that cleanly and I verified it
rather than trusting it blind — but that the capture's own prose contains
a small citation overclaim ("recommends both as... required reading
alongside Bernheim," "the 'first required reading' for American
students") that Cali's same callout had to correct: the real sentence,
OCR-garbled, recommends Langlois-Seignobos alone as the substitute for
readers without German, not both books jointly. That's tier-adjacent
inflation — not a fabricated quote, but a looser paraphrase sitting right
next to a verbatim one, in a capture whose entire job was precision about
exactly this kind of citation. I logged a `[defect]` line to
`00-meta/seek-flags.md` for the duplication pattern itself (a repeat of
the 2026-08-10 Song-Jian/Hargens-Schuman instances — batch capture-
generation not checking `50-questions/_answered/` before dispatching the
same question twice) and flagged the overclaim inside it rather than
opening a second entry for one capture.

No question to rule on beyond what's already settled — the governing
question was answered by the sibling capture, not this one, and nothing
here reopens or advances it.

Skipped per the autonomous-operation brief: the pause-for-Cali step and
any git command, same reasoning as the passes above.

## Fifth promotion pass, same day

Promoted a fifth capture:
`10-inbox/raw/2026-10-06-does-hehl-et-al-1995-actually-contain-a.md` —
this one directly targets an open question,
[[question-verify-hypermomentum-challenge-1995-2024-priority-claim]],
raised because [[claim-hypermomentum-challenge-latent-in-mag-since-1995-explicit-2024]]
rested entirely on Kartik Tiwari's own gloss of two papers he never
quoted. This session fetched both named primaries directly: Hehl,
McCrea, Mielke & Ne'eman's 1995 *Physics Reports* review and Iosifidis &
Hehl's 2024 *Physics Letters B* paper.

Four claim blocks in the capture, winnowed to two notes:

- [[claim-iosifidis-hehl-2024-states-trinity-breaking-priority-while-building-on-prior-lineage]]
  — the 2024 paper states, in its own words, that it is first to show
hypermomentum breaks the Geometric Trinity's equivalence. I merged the
capture's fourth claim block (that this "first" is narrower than it
sounds — it names Wolf & Read 2023 as its specific target and admits
its equation-of-motion method is "consistent with" Obukhov & Puetzfeld
2014, not newly invented) into this same note as its caveat, per the
"atomic is not many" ruling: a result and the thing that narrows it are
  one finding.
- [[claim-hehl-1995-already-defines-hypermomentum-current-coupled-to-connection]]
  — the 1995 review's own abstract and Introduction already name a
hypermomentum current coupled to the connection and point it at Chapter
  5. Kept at seedling with an explicit `[unverified-mechanism]` flag
carried forward from the capture, because the actual field equations in
Chapters 3-6 were never reached — arXiv's copy is a 6-page stub against
  a 197-page published review, and sciencedirect.com 403'd.

The capture's third claim block — the bibliographic fact itself (6 pages
vs. 197, 9 KB v1 submission) — I did not promote to its own note. Per
5a's rule that metadata/document-provenance claims belong on the
question, not in `30-notes/`, I folded it into a dated progress-log entry
on the question instead. I also ruled on the question directly, since
this capture was written to answer it: **partially answered, left open**.
The 2024 half resolves cleanly at Tier 1; the 1995 half is evidence for
"latent" (the mechanism is named and pointed at the right chapter) but
not confirmation of it (the chapter itself is unread), so forcing closure
would overstate what got checked. Added the progress line rather than
flipping `status: answered`.

Retrieve-before-write: checked all twelve hinted related notes plus a
direct search of `30-notes/` and `40-entities/` for "hehl," "hypermomentum,"
"trinity," "tiwari." No collisions — both new notes are genuinely new
angles (direct primary confirmation) on a claim the vault previously held
only at one remove (Tiwari's gloss). I left the original Tiwari-gloss note
untouched rather than editing it; it's corroborated, not contradicted, so
there's no Correction history case here, just two new notes that link to
it.

Entity work: both [[entity-friedrich-hehl]] and
[[entity-metric-affine-gauge-theory-of-gravity]] had pages that explicitly
said their founding primaries were "not yet independently read" — which
this capture made false. Gave both a dated append rather than leaving the
stale claim sitting there uncorrected. Checked [[entity-hypermomentum]]
and [[entity-geometric-trinity]] too; neither needed a line, since this
capture adds nothing about the term or the Trinity concept itself beyond
what those pages already say. New entity candidates in the capture
(Jiménez/Heisenberg/Koivisto, Wolf & Read, Obukhov & Puetzfeld, McCrea/
Mielke/Ne'eman) all failed the promotion test on the same ground:
co-authorship alone is a mention, not a hub, and none of them is shown
doing anything beyond co-writing the one paper in question here. Left all
four as plain-text mentions inside the new notes' prose.

What felt off, worth flagging to Cali: nothing about the sourcing — this
was the cleanest capture of the five today, direct `extract_pdf`/
`archive_page` fetches throughout, exact quotes, an honest "load-bearing
limitation" paragraph the capture put up front before I even asked for
one. The thing that's mildly interesting rather than wrong: the capture
found real, Tier-1 evidence for roughly two-thirds of a thirty-year-old
priority claim and was honest that the last third (the actual 1995
equations) is still behind a paywall this vault can't reach. I added
sciencedirect.com to `sources.md`'s known-blocked-routes list (now a
fifth publisher platform alongside science.org, pnas.org,
academic.oup.com, journals.sagepub.com, pubsonline.informs.org) since
that's a direct, in-scope sourcing-discipline update from this capture's
own findings, not a noticing that belongs to someone else. No `[spec]` or
other seek-flags.md line needed beyond that — the sources.md edit is the
whole fix.

Skipped per the autonomous-operation brief: the pause-for-Cali step (no
one here to ask — winnowed on my own judgment, logged the reasoning in
the capture's `not_promoted:` list) and any git command (the auto-commit
agent handles that within 15 minutes).

## Sixth promotion pass, same day

Promoted a sixth capture:
`10-inbox/raw/2026-10-06-outside-arxiv261005358-astronomia-ova-keplers-laws-ptolemys-equant.md`
— a single-source capture of Moore, Smith & Mertens' "Astronomia Ova:
Kepler's Laws, Ptolemy's Equant, and Legendre's Polynomials" (arXiv:2610.05358,
2026-10-04), an unrefereed preprint arguing a non-elliptical orbit family
can satisfy both Kepler's second law and an exact Ptolemaic equant at once.
Genuinely outside the vault's usual AI/complexity lane — pure history of
astronomy — and the first capture I've promoted today that didn't come
out of the Song-Jian/Liang/Greenhalgh bridge-seed cluster or the Hehl
hypermomentum thread.

Three claims, three notes, all resting on the one preprint — exactly the
single-source concentration cap `sources.md` allows before a fourth note
from the same unrefereed primary is blocked:

- [[claim-astronomia-ova-orbit-family-satisfies-keplers-second-law-and-exact-equant]]
  — the paper's central result, direct quote, Tier 1.
- [[claim-ptolemy-equant-mars-error-8-arcminutes-tycho-precision-forced-kepler-to-abandon-it]]
  — the ~8-arcminute Mars figure forcing the equant's abandonment. The
paper states this directly (Tier 1), but attributes the number itself
to Bracco & Provost (2009), an independent peer-reviewed source this
capture never fetched — so the claim clears the sourcing floor on the
preprint's own words, but the number's true root is still one layer
  down and unread.
- [[claim-kepler-1609-astronomia-nova-rejected-puffy-cheeked-via-buccosa-oval-orbit]]
  — Kepler's own 1609 words (quadrature frustration, the rejected "puffy-
cheeked" *via buccosa*), quoted by the paper from Donahue's 1992
translation. Also one transcription layer removed from the published
English edition, noted honestly in the note rather than smoothed over.

None of the three carried a formal `[unverified-*]` bracket flag in the
capture — all read as direct quotes against a Tier-1 document with no
safety signals — so none are forced to seedling by that rule specifically,
but I kept all three at `status: seedling` anyway on the more basic
grounds that they're brand-new notes resting on a single unreviewed
preprint, which is exactly what seedling is for.

Retrieve-before-write: checked the twelve hinted related notes plus a
direct search of `30-notes/`, `40-entities/`, and `50-questions/` for
kepler/ptolemy/equant/legendre/orbit/ellipse/cassini/mertens. No
collisions of any kind — this is a genuinely new corner of the vault,
confirmed by search rather than assumed from the capture's own "no
overlap" claim (which was right, but I checked independently anyway).

Six "further leads" left unpromoted, logged in the capture's
`not_promoted:` list with one-line reasoning each: the mid-1600s
"simple elliptic theory" astronomers, Cassini's cassinoid, David
Gregory's 1702 counterexample proof, the ε³ minimum-variance refinement
(folded as caveat context into claim 1 rather than split out — atomic is
not many), the Antikythera mechanism's eccentric-circle model, and
Whiteside's 1974 historiographical framing. The cassinoid and Gregory
items specifically would have been a 4th and 5th claim-note on this same
single unrefereed preprint, over the cap — routed instead into one
corroboration question rather than becoming notes:

- [[question-corroborate-astronomia-ova-2026-mars-equant-figure-and-central-result]]

This question also covers the cap's actual discharge target: an
independent read of Bracco & Provost (2009) for the Mars figure, and
whatever citation or review record accumulates against arXiv:2610.05358
once it's had time to be read by anyone else. Did not route a second
question for the Donahue-translation transcription gap — mentioned it as
a lighter-weight note inside the same question rather than opening a
second entry, since it isn't load-bearing on its own.

No question to rule on — this capture didn't originate from an open
question; it's a fresh single-source capture.

Entity work: four candidates promoted to hub — [[entity-claudius-ptolemy]],
[[entity-johannes-kepler]], [[entity-tycho-brahe]] (all real, load-bearing,
one-sentence-why figures appearing directly in the promoted claims, none
existing before today), and a concept hub, [[entity-ptolemys-equant]],
since the equant is literally the hinge two of three claims turn on. I did
*not* hub the paper's three co-authors (Moore, Smith, Mertens) — checked
the co-authorship rule directly rather than assuming it: grepped the
vault for "Cristopher Moore" specifically (he's Santa Fe Institute, and
the vault already has an SFI-adjacent cluster via the cricket-Laws paper)
and confirmed he isn't among that paper's co-authors either (Chia, Youn,
Singer, Jeong, Kempes, Ogbunugafor, West, Holehouse) — so no hidden
bridge, genuinely just one joint paper, mention only. I also skipped
hub pages for Cassini, Gregory, Donahue, and Whiteside — all real people
I could write a one-sentence "why" for, but all appear only in the
*unpromoted* further-leads material, single-mention, nothing load-bearing
yet; biased against the flood rather than hubbing every name the capture
touched.

What felt off: nothing about this capture's own sourcing — it's about as
clean as single-source preprint captures get, with the capture's own
prose pre-flagging the single-source concentration issue before I even
opened `sources.md` to check the cap myself, and correctly noting where
the paper's own citations (Bracco & Provost, Russell, Wilson, Whiteside)
sit one level down from what was actually fetched. If anything felt
slightly generous, it's the Tier 1 label on the Mars-accuracy claim: it's
true that the sentence sits inside a Tier-1 document, but the number's
real authority lives in a 2009 *European Journal of Physics* paper this
session (and the capture before it) never touched, and I want that
distinction to survive in the note rather than evaporate into a clean-
looking "Tier 1, direct quote" frontmatter block — which is exactly why
the note's own prose and the routed question both say so explicitly
rather than letting the frontmatter speak alone.

Skipped per the autonomous-operation brief: the pause-for-Cali step (no
one here to ask — winnowed on my own judgment, logged the reasoning in
the capture's `not_promoted:` list) and any git command (the auto-commit
agent handles that within 15 minutes).

## Seventh promotion pass, same day

Promoted a seventh capture:
`10-inbox/raw/2026-10-07-bipartite-computing-ml-ai-jordanouss-2020-historical-review-frames-dreyfus.md`
— a bridge-seed check of whether
[[claim-jordanous-2020-frames-dreyfus-precursor-by-comparison]] and
[[observation-dreyfus-olazaran-combined-framing-not-found-in-published-ai-history-literature]]
connect, or just look related. They do connect, and it's a better find
than the capture's own title lets on: both notes turn out to cite the
*same* 1988 Dreyfus & Dreyfus *Daedalus* essay, the two load-bearing
sentences sitting three printed pages apart (p.37 for Jordanous's
precursor-to-Brooks evidence, p.34 for the vault's own connectionism-
vindication claim) inside one continuous argument. Two notes:

- [[claim-jordanous-precursor-quote-and-dreyfus-1988-vindication-quote-are-same-essay]]
  — the bibliographic-identity-plus-page-location fact itself, Tier 1 both
legs, both primaries re-fetched and read directly this session. It also
resolves a source-side oddity the vault had flagged but not explained:
Jordanous's reference list garbles the essay's first-publication venue
  as "Artificial Intelligence 117 No. 1, 1988" — a volume/year pairing
that journal never had — because "Artificial Intelligence" was actually
*Daedalus* 117(1)'s own themed-issue title, misread as a separate
journal by her own reprint citation.
- [[observation-dreyfus-1988-single-essay-split-across-two-readerships-explains-combined-framing-absence]]
  — the capture's actual contribution: a structural mechanism for why no
published AI-history source combines the Dreyfus-vindication and
Olazaran-SRI accounts. One essay does two jobs three pages apart; the
philosophy-of-AI/robotics line only ever needed one paragraph, the
history-of-ML/perceptron line only ever needed the other. I gave this
  `bridge_verdict: confirmed`, matching the capture's own verdict.

Cali's daily-review callout, sitting in the capture's frontmatter, caught
three things before I started, and I checked all three directly rather
than taking her word: she's right on all of them. `entity-mikel-olazaran`
already exists (the capture's "flagged as not yet having a page" claim
was simply wrong — I did not create a duplicate, just appended to the
existing hub). `question-brooks-1991-dreyfus-anti-representation-lineage`
is not orphaned — it's sitting correctly in `50-questions/_answered/`,
status answered, closed back on 2026-07-12; I read the archived file
directly to confirm rather than trusting either the capture or Cali on
this one, and it's a non-issue, no action owed. And "unnoticed until this
session" overstated things: the two claims already held both halves of
the connection separately (same essay cited twice, under different
names); what's actually new is the specific p.37 location and the
venue-garble resolution. I wrote the new notes to reflect the narrower,
accurate claim rather than the capture's more dramatic framing.

Retrieve-before-write: checked all twelve hinted related notes plus the
two Dreyfus brothers' entity pages, Jordanous's and Olazaran's pages, and
the governing question archive. No collisions — the bibliographic-
identity finding and the mechanism synthesis are both genuinely new
angles; the closest existing note
([[claim-jordanous-precursor-dreyfus-texts-differ-from-brooks-cited-dreyfus-texts]])
compares Jordanous's citations against *Brooks's*, not against the
vault's own Dreyfus-1988 primary, so it's a different pairing entirely.

Not routed to a question: none of this capture's three "further leads"
were load-bearing for either kept claim. The Boden-reprint pagination
cross-check (does the reprint's own p.330 land on the same sentence found
here at original p.37) is a nice-to-have exactness check, not something
either note rests on — I recorded it as a `watch_flag` on the claim-note
instead of opening a question, per the question-intake discipline against
minor hedges. Whether Jordanous's paper alludes elsewhere to the
connectionism material is pure curiosity, left unrouted. The housekeeping
check on the archived question turned out to need no action at all, per
Cali's correction above.

Entity work: four candidates (Hubert Dreyfus, Stuart Dreyfus, Anna
Jordanous, Mikel Olazaran) all already have hub pages — each got a dated
append line for what this session specifically taught it, not a generic
restatement. Two candidates declined: Margaret Boden (real person, but
her role here is thin — anthology editor of the reprint vehicle, not
engaged with directly — UNSURE, don't promote) and *Daedalus*/the American
Academy of Arts and Sciences (a publication venue, not an org that acts
in the vault's arguments — fails the org bar on purpose).

What felt off: the capture's prose ran ahead of its own evidence in a way
Cali's callout had to correct before I even opened the PDFs — "unnoticed
until this session" and "sole piece of textual evidence" both overclaim
novelty/exhaustiveness that a check against the existing claim-notes
didn't support, and one of its two housekeeping leads (the Olazaran page,
the orphaned-question worry) was just wrong on inspection. None of this
is sourcing fraud — both primaries really were re-fetched and the quotes
really are verbatim — but it's the same shape as this morning's Sherman
Kent capture: a batch worker narrating "new" and "first" more confidently
than a direct check of the vault's own prior notes supports. I didn't log
a separate `[defect]` line for this one; Cali's own callout already
caught it at the chokepoint, and writing the corrected, narrower claim
into the new notes is the actual fix.

Skipped per the autonomous-operation brief: the pause-for-Cali step (no
one here to ask — winnowed on my own judgment, logged the reasoning in
the capture's `not_promoted:` list) and any git command (the auto-commit
agent handles that within 15 minutes).

## Eighth promotion pass, same day

Promoted an eighth capture:
`10-inbox/raw/2026-10-07-bipartite-ml-ai-computing-ansari-2026-traces-one-case-of.md`
— a bridge-seed check of the pairing between
[[claim-ansari-2026-contamination-inheritance-citation-error-propagates-across-models]]
and
[[claim-chainqueen-reference-list-directly-cites-sulsky-zhou-schreyer-1995-mpm-origin]]
at cosine 0.85.

Verdict: hedged bridge, same as the capture's own read — opposite citation
polarity at the referent (Ansari's is a fabrication inherited from a
contaminated ancestor text; ChainQueen's is a correct, directly-sourced
citation to MPM's real founding lineage), with a real asymmetry surviving
one level up at the method: ChainQueen's attribution is independently
corroborated outside its citation chain (SAND-91-7095, Schreyer's own
faculty bibliography), Ansari's is a single identical-string match with no
second leg. The capture made three separate-looking arguments for this
(the false-friend verdict itself, the corroboration-count asymmetry, and
applying the vault's own copy-fingerprint test to this new pair) — per the
"atomic is not many" ruling, one finding, its caveat, and the method that
found it, so one note:

- [[observation-chainqueen-ansari-contamination-inheritance-cosine-085-pairing-is-hedged-bridge]]

The capture's fourth claim — that this is a "fourth" high-cosine Ansari
pairing and a sign of a retrieval "semantic attractor" — I did **not**
promote. Cali's own daily-review callout, sitting in the capture's
frontmatter, had already caught two problems: the count is wrong (a David
& Brachet × GhostCite pairing got miscounted as an Ansari pairing — this
is the *third* Ansari pairing, not the fourth) and one wikilink pointed at
a note that never mentions Ansari at all. I verified both corrections
directly against the actual notes rather than taking the callout on faith,
and they hold. Separately, this claim is about the vault's own retrieval/
embedding behavior, which `promote.md`'s 5a step routes away from
`30-notes/` regardless. So instead of a claim-note: a corrected, dated line
on [[entity-samar-ansari]] (three pairings, not four, with the count fixed)
and a `[watch]` line in `00-meta/seek-flags.md` — real signal worth a look
if a fourth pairing turns up, but not confirmed enough yet to call it a
pattern about the index itself, and not this capture's claim to carry as
drafted.

Retrieve-before-write: checked all twelve hinted related notes. No
collision — this exact pair (ChainQueen × Ansari) had never been tested
against each other before; the hinted notes cover other Ansari pairings
(Kwakernaak, David & Brachet, GhostCite) and other ChainQueen claims, none
of them this one.

One lead routed to a question, because it's load-bearing for the new
note's "single fingerprint, n=1" characterization of Ansari's finding, and
has now been flagged twice without being read: whether a direct read of
Beltran et al.'s v1-vs-v2 diff (arXiv:2412.13176) would convert Ansari's
case from a one-text-match inference into a directly observed correction.

- [[question-verify-beltran-2024-v1-v2-diff-confirms-ansari-contamination-inheritance]]

The other three further leads (no citation-error found on Sulsky/Schreyer
after search; the differentiable-MPM cluster's LLM-assistance unchecked;
the Baydin/Pearlmutter/Radul/Siskind AD-survey citation unchecked) are none
load-bearing for anything kept — logged in `not_promoted`, not routed.

Entity work: six candidates. Deborah Sulsky and Howard Schreyer already
have hub pages, and I checked both directly before deciding — the
ChainQueen-citation fact this capture would add is already there as a
2026-10-04 dated line on each, so no update, correctly nothing to do.
Samar Ansari's existing hub got the corrected dated line described above.
Two new pages: [[entity-yuanming-hu]], a straight hub promotion — real
person, ChainQueen's and DiffTaichi's first author, recurring across three
vault captures without ever having a page despite his co-authors on the
Sulsky/Schreyer side already having one. And a `status: watching` stub,
[[entity-beltran-et-al-2024-v1]], for the contaminated ancestor preprint —
flagged as an entity candidate twice now (2026-09-24, and again here)
without ever being promoted; first_seen stamped to 2026-09-24, the
documented date it was actually first flagged, not today. The sixth
candidate — the copy-fingerprint test / citation-genealogy-mapping concept,
flagged once before and now applied productively a second time — cleared
the "recurs or load-bearing" bar for an established concept, so I gave it
its own hub, [[entity-copy-fingerprint-test]], rather than leaving it a
second time as an unlinked mention.

No question to rule on — this capture didn't originate from an open
question; it's a scheduled bridge-seed pairing.

What felt off: nothing about the two primaries' own sourcing — both
re-confirmed sha-identical to the existing vault record, both quotes
verbatim. What felt off was the capture's own fourth claim reaching for a
bigger, more dramatic finding ("semantic attractor," a fourth instance)
than its own arithmetic supported, in a way Cali's callout had to catch
before I ever opened the cited notes myself — the same shape as two of
today's earlier captures (the Jordanous/Dreyfus one, the Sherman Kent
repeat). I didn't log a fresh `[defect]` for the miscounting itself since
Cali's callout already caught it at the chokepoint and the correction is
the fix; I did log the `[watch]` entry above because the underlying
three-instance pattern, correctly counted, is still a real thing worth
someone's eye later.

Skipped per the autonomous-operation brief: the pause-for-Cali step (no
one here to ask — winnowed on my own judgment, logged the reasoning in
the capture's `not_promoted:` list) and any git command (the auto-commit
agent handles that within 15 minutes).

## Ninth promotion pass, same day

Promoted a ninth capture:
`10-inbox/raw/2026-09-25-hop-ml-nlp-measured-insularity-and-garfields-1980-citation-amnesia.md`
— a hop-batch capture that started from the vault's own single-pair finding
(organizational-forgetting and ML literatures cite each other zero times) and
climbed to the question behind it: what is the *base rate* of cross-field
citation, and is a zero even surprising?

Four distinct claims, four notes — and for once that's not me over-splitting.
Each rests on a different source, so "atomic is not many" didn't fold any of
them together; the independence test (could each be true or false on its own?)
cleanly separated them:

- [[claim-wahle-2023-nlp-cross-field-citation-diversity-fell-1980-to-2022]]
  — the base rate itself (CFDI 0.58→0.31), Tier 1, grounded quote. I folded
the own-field-share rise (~5%→40%) and the psychology −5.0 figure in as
supporting detail, the latter explicitly flagged `[unverified-quote]` since
it failed quote_check on a column-wrap. I did *not* route a question for the
−5.0: the note's load-bearing claim is the CFDI decline, which doesn't rest
on it — per the intake discipline, a non-load-bearing hedge stays in the
  note, not the question pile.
- [[claim-scitraj-2026-ml-nlp-vision-cite-within-field-above-chance]]
  — the typed-citation complement, all three fields siloed. Here the numbers
  *are* the claim (within 1.99–2.26, cross 0.06–0.65, Vision→ML 1.12), they're
a quantitative claim on an unrefereed preprint, and they were read off a
table whose surrounding sentences failed quote_check — so `[unverified-quant]`
and a routed question. The *direction* is safe; the exact propensities aren't.
- [[claim-nguyen-eger-2024-ai-bibliography-age-halved-reframes-amnesia-as-dynamism]]
  — the live rebuttal. I gave it its own note precisely so a future reader
pulling the Wahle claim finds the counterargument already attached and
already scoped: Nguyen & Eger contest citation *age*, not field *diversity*,
and the two axes are orthogonal, so the rebuttal lands without sinking the
  insularity story.
- [[claim-citation-amnesia-term-traces-to-garfield-1980-essay]]
  — the chain's genuine payoff: "citation amnesia" is a 1980 Garfield coinage,
not an LLM-era one. This is the one I held my nose on. The whole claim leans
on an essay *title* the capture reports as "From Citation Amnesia to
Bibliographic Plagiarism," with the phrase appearing (per the capture) in the
title *only*, and the one grounded body quote is a partial fragment. No
network here to re-read it, by design. So I promoted it at seedling, flagged
the title and fragment hard as `[unverified-quote]`, and routed a question to
confirm the title and capture a whole-sentence opening quote. Better an honest
seedling than a tidy 1980→2026 arc resting on an unconfirmed six-word title.

Retrieve-before-write caught the one real collision risk and resolved it as a
non-collision: the vault already has a 1980 Garfield *Current Contents* note
([[claim-garfield-1980-survey-omits-chandler]]), but that's the essay beginning
p.660 (v4p660, "Multiple Independent Discovery"); this capture's essay begins
p.503 (v4p503) — same volume, different essay. I read both the existing claim
and its answered question directly to be sure I wasn't about to duplicate or
contradict, and wrote the new note to say explicitly which PDF is which so a
later reader doesn't conflate them. Everything else in the hinted-related set
(the David & Brachet seed pair, citation-monoculture, hidden-citation, the Ji
survey) I linked *into* rather than duplicated — this capture is the field-level
base rate those single-pair notes were missing.

Questions routed (two, both load-bearing for a kept claim, not nice-to-haves):
the SciTraj Table XI propensities and the Garfield essay title. Nothing else
routed — the intake discipline earned its keep here, since this capture had a
pile of tempting-but-non-load-bearing leads I deliberately left in
`not_promoted` instead of turning into promises.

Entity work: created one `watching` stub, [[entity-citation-amnesia]], with
`first_seen: 2026-09-25` — an emerging term (vault_mentions 0 at capture) that
recurs across 1980/2023/2025, exactly the don't-wait case the entity spec names.
[[entity-eugene-garfield]] already has a hub, so I appended one dated line for
the new v4p503 essay rather than skipping him — the page knew his *other* 1980
essay and his impact-factor work but had never recorded him as the origin of
"citation amnesia." Declined the rest of the candidate list (CFDI as a
single-paper metric; Wahle, Mohammad, Nguyen, Eger, Sorokin as co-authors or
in-essay mentions) — bias against the flood, logged in `not_promoted`.

This capture didn't originate from an open question — it's a scheduled hop-batch
seed off the David & Brachet × GhostCite pairing — so there was no question to
rule on for closure. I checked `50-questions/` for a "zero-ML / base-rate /
insularity" originating question and found none.

What felt off: honestly, not much — this is the best-shaped capture of the nine
today. The Sonnet writer did its own novelty check (0.73 max cosine, frontier)
and, more impressively, *scoped the capture down* when a broader "forgetting"
phrasing scored duplicate-risk against the existing organizational-forgetting
cluster — i.e. it declined to re-mine ground the vault already held, which is
exactly the discipline four of today's earlier captures lacked. Its own
commentary pre-conceded that the forgetting bridge is weak inference, which
saved me from having to argue it down. The one soft spot is structural, not a
defect: three of the four sources are unrefereed preprints (SciTraj 2606,
Nguyen & Eger 2401, plus Wahle's arXiv preprint of a published EMNLP paper) and
two of the four notes carry quote-check failures on table/column layout — the
same two-column-extraction weakness Cali's already taken ownership of in
`sources.md`. I didn't log a fresh `[defect]` for it; it's a known, owned issue,
and the flags-plus-routed-questions are the right response, not another ledger
line. I did add one `[post]` line for the 1980→2026 essay thread, which is a
genuinely nice arc if the Garfield title holds up on re-read.

Skipped per the autonomous-operation brief: the pause-for-Cali step (no one here
to ask — winnowed on my own judgment, logged the reasoning in the capture's
`not_promoted:` list) and any git command (the auto-commit agent handles that
within 15 minutes).

## Tenth promotion pass, same day

Promoted a tenth capture:
`10-inbox/raw/2026-09-27-bipartite-two-things-this-vault-knows-in-different.md`
— a bridge-seed check of the cosine-0.84 pairing between
[[claim-garfield-1980-survey-omits-chandler]] (epistemology) and
[[claim-werbos-docsub-report-and-rhws-missing-1974-thesis-are-different-documents]]
(ml-ai). Fittingly, after a day spent inside the Garfield/Chandler and
Werbos threads from several other angles, this one asks whether those two
threads actually touch.

They do — but the whole capture is one finding, not five. The five "Claim:"
sections are a single bridge verdict wearing five coats: no object-level
overlap (the setup), shared source-criticism method (ground one), shared
Merton-vs-Chandler debate (ground two), and the verdict itself stated twice.
Per "atomic is not many," that is one note:

- [[observation-garfield-chandler-werbos-docsub-cosine-pairing-is-a-bridge-through-shared-vault-ancestor]]
  — `bridge_verdict: hedged`. Against the vault's false-friend/confirmed
binary it's firmly *not* a false friend; within the finer three-pole
taxonomy it's the in-between shape, because the link runs through two
  shared ancestor notes ([[observation-priority-adjudication-is-documentary-source-criticism]]
  and [[claim-merton-multiple-discovery-is-sciences-dominant-pattern]], both
2026-07-12) rather than a direct citation between the seeds. The strongest
hedge of the set, I think, because the ancestor is explicit and dated, not
an inferred stylistic echo like the Gates-Jevons case.

Retrieve-before-write: checked all twelve hinted related notes plus a direct
search of `30-notes/` for garfield/werbos-docsub/chandler/bipartite. No
collision on this exact pairing. The closest sibling,
[[observation-rhw-1986-werbos-docsub-cosine-bridge-is-thematic-not-causal]],
tests a *different* seed pair (RHW-1986 × Werbos-DOCSUB) and reaches a
different verdict (thematic-not-causal) — I linked to it rather than
duplicated. The capture's own prior-captures check was unusually thorough
(it named three siblings mentioning one slug each and a fourth investigating
the Gates-Jevons pair, and correctly concluded this specific pair was fresh);
my independent search agreed.

No new question routed. The bridge verdict is synthesis, not a factual doubt,
and the cosine 0.84 is the genre's standing `[unverified-quant]` (taken from
task framing, never re-derived) — flagged in `audit_status` as every sibling
does, not a load-bearing doubt a kept claim rests on. Per the intake
discipline, no promise made. This capture also didn't originate from an open
question — it's a scheduled bridge-seed pairing — so nothing to rule on for
closure. (I did notice in passing that
[[question-verify-chandler-multiple-discovery-thesis-and-identity]], linked as
"open" from the Chandler hub and the capture's own further-leads, is actually
sitting in `50-questions/_answered/` — a stale label the mechanical relocation
left behind. Cosmetic, not this capture's to fix, left alone.)

Entity work: all four candidates (Merton, Chandler, Garfield, Werbos) already
have hubs. Merton and Chandler — the debate's two poles, and the note is
explicitly *about* their debate recurring — each got a dated append linking
the new observation, consistent with how the Merton page already logs
bridge-check observations (the Quellenkritik and Alemohammad/Simkin lines).
Garfield and Werbos I left untouched: the note teaches nothing new about
either as a person, only about how two of their seed notes happen to rhyme in
method. The capture's fifth entity candidate — "documentary source criticism"
as a standalone concept page — I declined to mint headless (bias against the
flood) and routed to the Warden as an `[entity]` line in `seek-flags.md`; it's
a genuine recurrence (third data point now) and may well earn a hub, but that's
a non-headless call.

What felt off: nothing wrong with this capture — clean Tier-1 (all vault-
internal), no `[unverified-*]` flags, no inflation, and a genuinely careful
duplicate-check. The honest observation is about the *finding itself*, and the
capture already half-saw it: this is the fourth or fifth bridge-check I've
promoted today, and the verdict here is the quietest and most self-referential
of them. The cosine didn't find a connection in the world. It found the vault
executing the same documentary-source-criticism move twice, five weeks apart,
without either writing session having the earlier method-note in view — the
vault's own hand showing through two seed notes. A real bridge, and also a
small mirror. I'm comfortable calling it hedged rather than confirmed; inventing
a direct link to make it "confirmed" would be exactly the received-attribution
move both seed notes refuse.

Skipped per the autonomous-operation brief: the pause-for-Cali step (no one
here to ask — winnowed on my own judgment, logged the reasoning in the
capture's `not_promoted:` list) and any git command (the auto-commit agent
handles that within 15 minutes).

## Promotion pass — the 2026-09-27 Olsder capture

Ran a second headless promotion today, on
`10-inbox/raw/2026-09-27-who-was-geert-jan-olsder-and-does-any.md` — the
"who was Geert Jan Olsder, and does any contemporary record corroborate his
Song Jian account" capture. Three claim-blocks in; three notes out, but not
the three the capture would have written if it had had the vault in front of
it.

**Promoted:**
- [[claim-olsder-2003-cv-attests-twente-tenure-1971-1981]] — Olsder's own
October-2003 CV, read directly at last (Tier 1). This is the primary the
vault had carried only as a search-snippet lead, the one the
  `claim-olsder-twente-group-member-until-1982` audit said "defeated every
direct-fetch route." It gives his Twente employment as 1971–1981, a year
short of the obituary's "(till 1982)." I resolved the tension in the note's
favour of the CV without rewriting the obituary note: "(till 1982)" is a
colleague's recollection of *group membership*, not a payroll date, and
need not agree to the year with Olsder's own account of his own employment.
- [[claim-olsder-strijbos-1976-paper-cites-two-1975-twente-memoranda-predecessors]]
  — the one genuinely-new slice of the capture's "1975 research trail" claim:
two numbered 1975 Twente memoranda (nr. 64 Olsder & Strijbos; nr. 94
Kwakernaak, in Dutch) cited in the 1976 paper's own reference list.
- [[claim-sengers-2025-third-telling-olsder-1975-account-kwakernaak-designated-host]]
  — the newly-located third telling (Fred Sengers, *Historisch Nieuwsblad*,
Dec 2025), seedling and `[unverified-historical]`, Tier 3. Its one new
detail: Kwakernaak was the *designated* host, absent that day, so Olsder got
  Song Jian by contingency.

**Not promoted (and why):** the capture's headline "five-document 1975 Twente
lineage" is mostly already in the vault — the three student reports, the *De
Ingenieur* article, and the 1976 paper were all promoted on 2026-10-06 as
[[claim-kwakernaak-1977-bibliography-excludes-astrom-rests-on-dutch-twente-club-of-rome-lineage]],
from a *different* capture written six days after this one. So I kept only the
two net-new memoranda and linked the lineage note rather than re-recording it.
The archival methodological block (Atlantis/Delpher JS search walls) went to
the question's progress log, not a claim-note — it's a vault-search/method
finding per promote.md 5a, and it duplicates the 2026-09-05 entry already
there. The core negative ("no 1975/1978 record of the meeting") *is* the open
state of [[question-verify-song-jian-1975-twente-delegation-visit]], not a
standalone claim. I appended a three-part progress line to that question and
left it `open` — nothing here corroborates the meeting itself, only the
content around it.

**Entities:** Olsder, Kwakernaak, and Strijbos all have hubs and all learned
something — Olsder the CV and the third telling, Kwakernaak the nr. 94
memorandum and the "designated host" framing, Strijbos the 1975 predecessor to
his one known paper — so each got a dated append. I declined Fred Sengers
(one relayed article = a mention, not a hub, per the co-authorship rule),
*De Ingenieur* (a venue), and the "Twente Memorandum series" (a finding-aid,
not a load-bearing concept). Bias against the flood.

**What felt off:** two things, both about process rather than the capture's
honesty — which was good; it even caught and discarded a fabricated-sounding
WebSearch synthesis about a Schiff Sovereign article and logged the catch,
exactly right. First, the duplicated research: this capture and the 2026-10-06
Kwakernaak-bibliography note reconstructed the same 1975 Twente lineage two
weeks apart because this one sat unpromoted near the 14-day inbox limit while
the other was written and promoted ahead of it. Logged as a `[watch]` in
`seek-flags.md` — worth seeing whether inbox dwell is systematically causing
overlapping batch work on live clusters. Second, the one-year CV-vs-obituary
tension is now live in two notes; I resolved it in prose but did not touch the
obituary note's own audit_status (it still calls the CV an unconfirmed lead) —
I have no network to re-verify the CV myself here, and that re-check is the
verifier bee's rung, not mine. A future session with the CV in hand could tidy
that note's frontmatter.

Skipped per the autonomous-operation brief: the pause-for-Cali step (winnowed
on my own judgment, logged in the capture's `not_promoted:` list) and any git
command (the auto-commit agent handles that within 15 minutes).

## Eleventh promotion pass, same day — the Kimura/Crow neutral-drift hop

Promoted an eleventh capture:
`10-inbox/raw/2026-09-28-hop-kimura-crow-neutral-drift-bridges-citation-copying-and-llm-dilution.md`
— a hop-batch chain off the same Alemohammad × Simkin cosine-0.84 seed pair I've
been circling all day, but this one climbs *down* the citation graph instead of
sideways, and finds something I didn't expect to be real: a named, cited ancestor.

Three core claims in the capture, winnowed to **two claim-notes plus one
observation**:

- [[claim-simkin-roychowdhury-credit-kimura-crow-1964-neutral-allele-model-as-prior-derivation]]
  — the genuine find. Simkin & Roychowdhury's 2005 paper says, in a parenthesis,
that its citation-count formula was "previously derived (using a different
method) by Kimura and Crow (1964)" in population genetics. The vault already had
the Simkin copying model; it did not know the model names its own ancestor. Tier 1,
capture-verified against the archived Simkin text (sha 080a4bff).
- [[claim-hahn-bentley-2003-neutral-drift-reproduces-baby-name-power-law-popularity]]
  — the middle leg. Hahn & Bentley (2003) cite the *same* Kimura & Crow (1964)
result to show baby-name popularity needs "a completely value-neutral process: no
preference, fitness, or selection... only proportional sampling." A new source,
read via a Berkeley course-hosted mirror PDF (venue of record: Proc. R. Soc. B
Suppl. 270) — flagged the mirror caveat per sources.md rather than smoothing it.
- [[observation-kimura-crow-1964-is-shared-named-ancestor-of-citation-copying-and-cultural-drift-models]]
  — the synthesis. `bridge_verdict: confirmed`, because this one isn't an embedding
shadow: two independent author groups (bibliometrics, cultural evolution) cite the
same 1964 paper by name. A documented three-domain lineage, genetics → cultural
  evolution → bibliometrics.

The winnowing call I'm most deliberate about: **I did not promote the capture's
third core claim** ("Alemohammad's dilution is the same neutral-drift move,
unattributed"). The dilution result is already a note, and its relation to Simkin
is already adjudicated — [[observation-alemohammad-2026-simkin-2005-cosine-084-pairing-is-analytical-contrast]]
(2026-10-04, verified-verbatim) found the two mechanisms are *opposed*, not the
same: Simkin's copying compounds on a paper's own history, Alemohammad's dilution
explicitly does not ("being cited never raises a paper's chance of being shown
again"). So the capture's headline four-link chain conflicts with a note the vault
has already verified. I kept the honest shape instead — a confirmed three-domain
lineage with the AI case rhyming at a higher altitude (recognition-free
concentration), an independent rediscovery of the shared moral, not a documented
descendant. The defensible residue went into the observation and onto the
Alemohammad hub as a dated line, not into a new claim. This is the restraint I'd
want Cali to check: the capture handed me a prettier story than the one I could
source, and the prettier story was the one a verified note contradicts.

Retrieve-before-write: checked all twelve hinted related notes plus direct grep of
`30-notes/` and `40-entities/` for kimura/hahn/bentley/neutral-drift/value-neutral.
No collisions — the one "Hahn" hit was Ulrike Hahn (gambler's fallacy), a different
person. Genuinely new corner of the vault; the Simkin and Alemohammad clusters it
connects to already existed and I linked densely into them.

Question routed (one, load-bearing): the whole lineage rests on both later papers
citing the *same* 1964 object, but Kimura & Crow (1964) itself was located by search
and not read this session. So "is it one shared mathematical ancestor or two loose
name-drops?" is exactly the doubt the confirmed-bridge verdict rests on —
[[question-verify-kimura-crow-1964-is-shared-mathematical-ancestor-of-citation-and-cultural-drift-models]],
pointing at the open-access Genetics 49:725-738 primary. Nothing else routed; the
three further leads (English-word-popularity, papal-names, Kimura's 1968 neutral
theory proper) are all repetitions or future hops, logged in `not_promoted`, no
promises made.

Entity work: two hubs created, four candidates declined. [[entity-motoo-kimura]] —
a real person, the cross-cluster convergence point of this whole finding, with
standing beyond the one cited paper (the 1968 neutral theory of molecular
evolution); and [[entity-neutral-drift-model]] — an established concept that
recurs and is load-bearing across bibliometrics and cultural evolution, and which
the capture's own further-leads distinguish from the vault's existing
iterated-learning import. Declined (co-authorship-alone-is-a-mention, bias against
the flood): Crow, Sewall Wright, Hahn, Bentley, Ewens — all named in the notes'
prose, none with separate vault standing yet. Updated two existing hubs that this
capture genuinely teaches something new: [[entity-m-v-simkin]] (his model names its
ancestor) and [[entity-sina-alemohammad]] (the resonance now has a named 1964
antecedent, mechanism-contrast intact). I checked both pages before appending so I
wasn't restating what they already said.

This capture didn't originate from an open question — it's a scheduled hop-batch
seed off the Alemohammad × Simkin pairing — so no question-closure to rule on.

What felt off: one real thing, and it's the overclaim pattern I've now seen in
several of today's captures, but in a subtler form. This capture's sourcing is
*good* — the Simkin and Hahn-Bentley quotes are grounded, the bridge is a genuine
documented one, and the Sonnet writer's own commentary ("I went in ready to write
'coincidence'... instead I found an actual paper trail") shows it did the honest
work. The off note is that its synthesis reached for a four-domain chain when the
vault's own prior work supports only three-plus-a-rhyme, and it did so because it
was written 2026-09-28, six days *before* the analytical-contrast note that settles
the AI leg. So this isn't a sloppy capture — it's a capture that aged into a
conflict with a note written after it. That's a structural artifact of inbox dwell
(the same near-14-day-dwell pattern flagged on the Olsder pass above), not a
writer defect, and I resolved it the only way that stays honest: trust the verified
note over the older capture's framing. I added a `[post]` line to `seek-flags.md`
rather than a defect line — the four-domain spine (concentration without preference,
one 1964 formula) is genuinely good material for the existing
`no-one-has-to-prefer-anything` draft, which both seed notes are already drafted_in.

Skipped per the autonomous-operation brief: the pause-for-Cali step (no one here to
ask — winnowed on my own judgment, logged the reasoning in the capture's
`not_promoted:` list) and any git command (the auto-commit agent handles that
within 15 minutes).

## Promotion — recovered bipartite capture (what connects inference-logical-types ↔ abductive-framing-scopes-to-ach-cd), 3db488

Second promotion of the day, and this one promoted **nothing** — correctly. The
capture is `10-inbox/raw/2026-09-29-recovered-bipartite-hop-what-connects-claim-inference-logical-3db488.md`:
a recovered 2026-09-29 session, restored unpromoted at Cali's instruction, that ran
the bipartite hop between `claim-inference-logical-types` and
`claim-abductive-framing-scopes-to-ach-cd-not-heuer-ach`. It carries three claims —
(1) AI's plan-recognition subfield classifies plan recognition as abductive, tracing
to Charniak (1985), per Goldman/Geib/Miller 1999; (2) Kautz & Allen (1986) frame the
same problem as deductive, never abductive; (3) the bridge is a real mechanism
connection that resolves one level up from either seed note.

All three are already in the vault, and retrieve-before-write caught every one:
- Claim 1 → `[[claim-charniak-1985-plan-recognition-abduction-tradition-predates-wikipedia]]`,
promoted 2026-10-04 from the sibling capture. Same source, same quote — and now
**stronger** than this capture: a 2026-10-05 cross-model audit discharged the
`[unverified-quote]` situation my capture still carries and recorded the lineage
  sentence verbatim.
- Claim 2 → `[[claim-kautz-allen-1986-plan-recognition-frames-as-deductive-not-abductive]]`,
promoted 2026-09-29 from a *different* sibling. Same source/sha, already
  `verified_verbatim`.
- Claim 3 → `[[observation-inference-logical-types-ach-cd-abduction-pairing-is-confirmed-charniak-bridge]]`,
`bridge_verdict: confirmed`, promoted 2026-10-04. Same synthesis, same verdict,
  same standing `[unverified-synthesis]` flag.

So: **3 claims found → 0 promoted → 3 skipped (all duplicates), 0 questions
created, 0 collisions resolved by new notes (3 by linking to existing).** The
winnowing reasoning is logged line-by-line in the capture's `not_promoted:` list;
`status: promoted` and the lists are confirmed on disk (final-mark re-read done).

**Question closure.** The originating open question
`[[question-verify-elsaesser-stech-2007-ach-cd-abduction]]` already logs *both* of
this capture's findings — Kautz & Allen in its 2026-09-29 entry, Charniak in its
2026-10-04 entry — through the siblings. This capture answers nothing it doesn't
already record, and the load-bearing doubt (the Elsaesser & Stech chapter is still
unread) is untouched. So I added no progress line and did not force closure: the
question stays open, exactly and honestly where it was. Adding a line would have
been noise restating the log.

**Entities.** Every candidate already has a hub page that already covers this
material — `[[entity-eugene-charniak]]`, `[[entity-plan-recognition]]` (which already
names both the Charniak and Kautz/Allen branches), `[[entity-henry-kautz]]`,
`[[entity-james-allen]]`, `[[entity-charles-sanders-peirce]]` — each linking the
relevant claim-notes and citing the sibling captures. Nothing new to append; I
deliberately left them untouched rather than re-stamp what they already say. Goldman
and McDermott got no page, consistent with the sibling sessions' bias-against-flood.

**What felt off.** Exactly what the capture's own `recovery_note` warned about:
"several sessions researched this pair, and only one per night survived." This is a
recovered duplicate of research that already landed — not bad sourcing (sourcing is
clean Tier 1 both sides), not tier inflation, just the same hop run by a second
session and recovered after its sibling had already been promoted and audited. One
small thing I noticed but did **not** act on: my capture quotes a fuller whole
sentence of the Kautz & Allen passage ("…based on a set of observations, an action
taxonomy, and one or more simplicity constraints") where the existing note uses only
the fragment "that plan recognition be viewed as ordinary deductive inference." Per
Cali's 2026-10-01 whole-sentence quote-shape rule the fuller sentence is nicer, but
the existing fragment is admissible and already `verified_verbatim` with a
`quote_sweep` PASS — re-opening a verified note's `source_quote` is the verifier
bee's lane, not a duplicate-promotion's, and I have no network to re-verify anyway.
Left it alone.

Flagged one `[watch]` line to `00-meta/seek-flags.md`: if more recovered late-Sept
bipartite captures are still queued, expect further pure-duplicate promotion
sessions — worth a glance at the recovery queue before spending sessions on them.

Skipped per the autonomous brief: the pause-for-Cali step (winnowed on my own
judgment, logged in `not_promoted:`) and any git command (auto-commit handles it).

## Promotion pass — the 2026-09-30 Merton/Quellenkritik bipartite capture

Promoted `10-inbox/raw/2026-09-30-bipartite-two-things-this-vault-knows-in-different.md`
— the Darwin–Wallace half of the Merton-1957 bridge investigation. One capture,
four claims (plus an embedded Arago data point), one note out. This is the last
of the late-September recovered same-pair siblings I flagged earlier today: it
investigates the identical pairing
([[claim-merton-priority-disputes-institutional-norm-enforcement]] ×
[[claim-no-documented-chain-found-from-quellenkritik-to-modern-priority-adjudication]])
as the recovered 2026-09-29 capture, reads the identical Merton 1957 PDF (same
sha 4c3ce7c9…), and reaches the same verdict (confirmed bridge). But unlike the
2026-09-29-inference-logical sibling that promoted zero, this one was not a pure
duplicate — the 2026-09-29 Merton capture's own `not_promoted_note` had
explicitly reserved the Darwin–Wallace arbitration episode for *this* capture,
and that reserved slice is the one thing I kept.

**Promoted (1 note):**
- [[claim-merton-1957-priority-disputes-waged-by-partisans-sometimes-arbitrators]]
  — Merton's footnote that priority fights are waged by the disputants'
partisans, who sometimes act as "judges and arbitrators rather than
advocates" (Lyell and Hooker, Darwin–Wallace). The genuinely new facet: the
vault's three existing Merton-1957 notes cover the *institutional* machinery
(the Newton–Leibniz committee, the sealed-deposit/received-date toolkit); none
covered the *social* dynamics of who actually prosecutes a priority dispute.

**Not promoted (3 claims + 1 data point), and why:**
- Claim 1 (institutional-norm grounding in the 1957 primary) — duplicate. Already
  in the vault via [[claim-merton-1957-newton-leibniz-committee-textbook-institutional-norm-case]]
  and [[claim-merton-1957-documentary-infrastructure-catalogue-for-priority-norm-enforcement]],
both promoted 2026-10-04 from the 2026-09-29 sibling.
- Claims 3 and 4 — Cali's own review callout, sitting in the capture's
frontmatter (dated 2026-09-30, via Claude Opus 5.5), says not to promote them
as written, and she's right. She read the 1858 joint paper itself (Darwin
Online F350) and showed the Lyell–Hooker arbitration did NOT sidestep dated
priority — the covering letter arranged the papers "Taken in the order of
their dates" and entered Darwin's 1839/1844 manuscripts and his 1857 Asa Gray
letter as documentary proof of his earlier date. That reverses the capture's
central thesis (arbitration *instead of* documents, which would explain the
null Quellenkritik chain). Claim 4 also duplicates the already-promoted
  [[observation-merton-quellenkritik-null-chain-pairing-is-confirmed-bridge-via-1957-primary]],
which reaches the confirmed verdict via the *correct* documentary mechanism.
- The Arago "weeks/days/hours/minutes" remark embedded in Claim 4 — not a
separate note. It's already in the vault relayed through
  [[claim-strevens-reinterprets-arago-effect-as-functional-contra-merton]]. The
capture has it direct from Merton 1957, which could tighten that note's own
"Merton 1957 itself remains unfetched" caveat — but only as fragments, inside
the refuted synthesis. Left to the verifier bee / a future session rather than
minting a near-duplicate on weak quotes.

I answered Cali's `> seek:` request both in the capture (under her callout) and
here: agreed, promoted accordingly, kept only Claim 2's true half and wrote it so
the arbitrator and the source-critic coincide rather than oppose, with her F350
correction preserved in the note's commentary. I did not re-fetch F350 (no
network here, by design); her receipts are specific enough, and the direction
matches what the vault already holds from the institutional side, that I trusted
them over the capture's reading.

**Questions:** none routed, none to rule on. This capture didn't originate from an
open question — it's a bipartite bridge-seed. The one question it gestures at,
[[question-verify-diplomatics-to-priority-adjudication-descent]], is explicitly
not advanced by this capture (the 2026-09-29 sibling already appended the
relevant Tier-1 progress line on 2026-10-04), so I left it untouched. The quote
re-check on Claim 2's fragments is the verifier bee's job, not a new question —
per the no-network rule, I carried the fragments with a `watch_flag` and let it go.

**Entities:** [[entity-robert-merton]] exists and got one dated additive line —
the third-party-arbitration/Darwin–Wallace facet is genuinely new to the page
(its 2026-10-04 line covers Newton–Leibniz and the documentary toolkit, not
this). I declined hubs for Lyell, Hooker, Darwin, and Wallace — real figures, but
incidental to this vault, appearing only as the principals/arbitrators of one
footnote's example; a missing hub is recoverable, dead stubs are noise. Declined
Prioritätsstreit too (a definitional curiosity, not an emerging term of art the
vault is tracking). François Arago I routed to the Warden as an `[entity]` line in
`seek-flags.md` — he recurs now across two notes as the namesake of the load-
bearing "Arago effect," so a hub may be owed, but that's a non-headless call.

**What felt off:** this is a textbook "duplicated research" case, and the honest
read is that the capture shouldn't fully exist — it's one of several late-Sept
bipartite sessions handed the same pair on consecutive nights, and its own
bridge-seed grep confidently claimed "no sibling capture investigates this exact
pair" while the 2026-09-29 sibling did exactly that (the grep missed it because
the sibling's slug truncates the note names). I didn't open a fresh `seek-flags`
line for the duplication — the pattern is already flagged twice today (the
"recovered bipartite captures from late Sept" `[watch]` and the near-14-day inbox
dwell one), and re-flagging it would be its own small act of duplication. The
mitigating detail, and the reason this wasn't a zero-note pass: the 2026-09-29
promotion deliberately left the Darwin–Wallace slice for this capture, so there
*was* one net-new facet to keep. The other thing worth saying plainly: the single
most valuable content in this capture isn't the capture's — it's Cali's embedded
F350 correction, which caught a real misreading of the paradigm case that clean
Tier-1 sourcing and quote_check would both have waved through. Second time this
week her daily-review callout has been the thing standing between a confidently-
sourced capture and a wrong claim entering the vault.

Skipped per the autonomous brief: the pause-for-Cali step (no one here to ask —
winnowed on my own judgment, logged in the capture's `not_promoted:` list) and
any git command (the auto-commit agent handles that within 15 minutes).

## Promotion pass — the 2026-10-03 Oaksford-Chater / resource-rational capture

Promoted
`10-inbox/raw/2026-10-03-bipartite-life-sciences-mathematics-oaksford-and-chater-redefine-rationality-as.md`
— a bridge-seed check of the cosine-0.85 pairing between
[[claim-oaksford-chater-redefine-rationality-as-reasoning-about-uncertainty]] and
[[claim-resource-rational-analysis-formalizes-utility-minus-compute-cost]]. This
is the *second* bridge off the same resource-rational-formalism seed note: the
2026-09-20 sibling paired it against Oaksford & Chater's **Wason-task** recast and
came back confirmed-via-direct-citation; this one pairs it against the
**uncertainty-redefinition** claim, drawn from the 2007 *Bayesian Rationality*
book, and comes back softer.

Three claims in, four notes out:

- [[claim-lieder-griffiths-2020-cite-oaksford-chater-2007-bayesian-rationality-in-background-list]]
  — Claim 1, the 2007 book cited in a five-work psychology background list. A
genuinely new, distinct citation (the vault already had notes for the 1994 and
1999 citations, not this one), so I promoted it as its own note to match the
vault's established practice of giving each Oaksford-Chater citation in this
article a dedicated note — even though the capture itself, correctly, calls it
the thinnest of the three. It's the only one of the three tied to the actual
book behind the uncertainty-redefinition seed, which is why it earns its keep.
- [[claim-lieder-griffiths-2020-list-probability-theory-among-three-classical-norms-resource-rationality-supersedes]]
  — Claim 2, the substantive heart: the article's own history lists probability
theory alongside expected utility and logic as a superseded classical norm,
which places Oaksford & Chater's logic-to-probability revision one step earlier
in the exact lineage resource-rational analysis narrates itself as continuing.
- [[claim-resource-rational-analysis-rationality-revisited-swaps-normative-yardstick-same-move-as-oaksford-chater]]
  — Claim 3, the §5.4 "Rationality revisited" yardstick-swap (redefine "cognitive
bias" as a violation of resource rationality, not of logic/probability/expected
utility). This adds a documented *fourth* member to the "rationality was
mismeasured" family the existing Oaksford-Chater note's commentary gestured at
  when there were three.
- [[observation-oaksford-chater-uncertainty-redefinition-resource-rational-pairing-is-genealogical-bridge]]
  — the bridge verdict for this distinct pairing, `bridge_verdict: hedged`. Not a
false friend (the connection is printed in the text) but not the confirmed,
worked-example engagement the Wason pairing had — the resource-rational article
inherits Oaksford & Chater's revision as background furniture and repeats their
rhetoric without ever arguing with the uncertainty-vs-logic thesis. I wrote this
as a separate observation, as the 2026-09-20 sibling did for its pairing, so the
constellation gets a verdict count for this seed pair rather than folding it into
  a claim's commentary.

Why four and not fewer: I weighed folding Claim 1 into Claim 2 (atomic is not
many), but the two citation siblings already in the vault set a clear precedent
of one note per distinct citation, and the entity-page update lines want a
dedicated note to point at. Claims 2 and 3 are independently true/false and rest
on different quoted passages, so they stayed separate. The bridge intro/verdict
prose is *not* a fifth note — it IS the observation's content.

Retrieve-before-write: this capture lands in the densest corner of the vault I've
touched today. Checked all twelve hinted related notes plus a sha-grep and a
"lieder" search of `30-notes/`; the same PDF already carries ~6 notes across two
prior captures (the 1994/1999 citation notes, the Wason-pairing observation, and
the three resource-rational-formalism/lineage notes). No collision on any of the
four new angles — the 2007-book citation, the probability-as-superseded-norm
framing, the §5.4 rhetorical move, and the uncertainty-redefinition verdict are
all genuinely new; the existing cluster is about the Wason/rational-analysis
citations, a different seed. I linked into that cluster densely rather than
re-deriving it.

On the single-source concentration cap: the capture's own further-leads worried
aloud about it ("worth a future check of whether that crosses the vault's
single-source-concentration cap if more claims are drawn from this one PDF"). It
doesn't — the cap governs *unrefereed* primaries (preprints, working papers,
abstracts), and this is a refereed *Behavioral and Brain Sciences* target article
with open peer commentary. So adding four is permitted. I recorded the ~7-notes-
on-one-PDF fact in `not_promoted` anyway, as acknowledged rather than ignored.

No questions routed. None of the kept claims rests on a load-bearing number or
mechanism in doubt — they're all Tier-1 direct-quote citation/structural facts,
capture-verified and queued for the verifier bee. The capture's further leads
(Hahn & Oaksford 2007, Sanborn & Chater 2016, the quantum-probability commentary,
Sosis & Bishop 2014) are nice-to-verify citation leads, not promises the pile
should hold — left in `not_promoted` per the intake discipline. This capture also
didn't originate from an open question (scheduled bridge-seed pairing), and the
one adjacent question it gestures at
([[question-quantum-cognition-conjunction-fallacy-fatal-or-scope-limit]]) isn't
advanced by anything here, so I left it alone rather than forcing a progress line.

Entity work: the capture's Entity-candidates section flagged Kahneman and Tversky
as new. I declined to mint either headless — this capture teaches nothing
substantive *about* either man; they appear only as names inside a citation list
("Kahneman & Tversky 1979," "Tversky & Kahneman 1973; 1974"), and a hub minted on
that would be a near-empty stub. They do anchor the rationality cluster, so I
flagged both to `seek-flags.md` as `[entity]` for the Warden rather than letting
the candidacy evaporate. Wason, Oaksford, Chater, Lieder, and Griffiths all
already have pages: I appended a dated line to Wason's (it now links into the
resource-rational cluster via the "logic (Wason 1968)" citation, which it didn't
carry), to Oaksford's and Chater's (the third/2007 citation plus the lineage and
rhetoric findings), and to the resource-rational-analysis concept hub (the
self-narration findings). Lieder's and Griffiths's person pages I read and left
alone — the findings are about how their *paradigm* narrates itself, which belongs
on the concept hub, not on biographical pages. I also logged a second `[entity]`
line: the "rationality was mismeasured" MOC is now genuinely owed (four members —
Simon, Oaksford-Chater, Gigerenzer, resource-rational — plus the Anderson root and
the contested-compatibility observation), which the existing commentary predicted
and this capture tips over the threshold.

What felt off: honestly, less than the batch-worker captures earlier today. The
sourcing is clean — refereed Tier-1 primary, exact quotes, a sha byte-identical to
two prior fetches, no safety flags, and the capture was admirably candid that its
headline citation (Claim 1) is thin and that the real find sits one layer down in
the lineage framing. The one thing worth naming is structural rather than wrong:
this is the *third* capture to mine the same Lieder & Griffiths PDF, and the vault
is now carrying roughly seven notes off one article. Each is individually
well-sourced and distinct, and the cap doesn't bite because the article is
refereed — but it's the same shape the concentration cap exists to make visible
for preprints, and a fourth capture off this PDF should expect to be mostly
folding into the existing cluster rather than finding new ground. The capture
half-saw this itself. I don't think this pass was wasted — the probability-as-
superseded-norm finding and the fourth "mismeasured" member are both real
additions — but the well is getting shallow.

Skipped per the autonomous brief: the pause-for-Cali step (no one here to ask —
winnowed on my own judgment, logged in the capture's `not_promoted:` list) and
any git command (the auto-commit agent handles that within 15 minutes).

## Promotion pass — the 2026-10-03 patent-corroboration hop capture

Promoted `10-inbox/raw/2026-10-03-hop-patent-corroboration-rule.md` — a
hop-batch capture that climbed from the Werbos×Isaacs priority seed pair,
through the vault's own testimony-is-not-a-record / diplomatics cluster, out
to US patent law, and landed on two Tier-1 USPTO findings. Two claims in, two
notes out:

- [[claim-us-patent-law-corroboration-rule-bars-uncorroborated-testimony-of-prior-invention]]
  — MPEP §715, citing *In re NTP* (Fed. Cir. 2011): an inventor's
uncorroborated testimony cannot establish a prior invention date. I folded
the capture's headline synthesis — that this *formalizes* the vault's
testimony-is-not-a-record principle — into this note's body and commentary
rather than splitting it into a standalone observation. A Tier-1 legal fact
and its one-sentence "this is our principle as binding doctrine" reading are
one finding, per "atomic is not many."
- [[claim-america-invents-act-2013-switched-us-to-first-inventor-to-file]]
  — the AIA's first-inventor-to-file provision, effective 2013-03-16, replacing
first-to-invent. The capture's second synthesis — "law chose a sense of
'first,' not discovered one" — went into this note's commentary, same
  reasoning.

Both stay `status: seedling`, `audit_status: capture-verified` — brand-new
notes on a single source each, with `source_sha` pinned for the verifier bee.
No `[unverified-*]` flag in the capture and clean Tier-1 quotes throughout, so
nothing forced them lower; but new-single-source is exactly what seedling is
for.

A sourcing-floor catch I made rather than inherited: the capture's prose
asserts the AIA replaced a "180-year-old" standard "for international-
harmonization convenience." Neither the ~180-year figure nor the harmonization
rationale is in the Tier-1 quote — the quote states only the switch and the
effective date. So I kept "180 years" out of the neutral body entirely (said
"long the US exception" instead, non-quantitative and uncontested) and put the
harmonization reading in commentary as my own, not as sourced fact. Same for
the *In re NTP* case citation: I attributed the quoted rule to MPEP §715 (the
`source_url` of record) and described the case as what MPEP cites, since I
can't re-verify the case-attribution placement against the live source and
shouldn't try (no network in promotion, by design).

No questions routed. Neither note rests on an unverified flag, the verifier
bee sweeps all notes now, and the capture's one tempting lead — the *Price v.
Symsek* / *Mahurkar* interference corroboration case-law vein — is a
future-research lead, not a load-bearing doubt any kept claim rests on. Per
the intake discipline that's a `[watch]` line in `seek-flags.md`, not a
promise in the question pile. This capture also didn't originate from an open
question (it's a scheduled hop-batch chain), so there was nothing to rule on
for closure. I did check: the one existing question its hop chain passes
through, [[question-verify-diplomatics-to-priority-adjudication-descent]], is
specifically about a Mabillon→Quellenkritik→priority *descent* lineage; this
capture is a convergent legal instance, not a descent finding, and doesn't
touch that question's named route — so I left it untouched rather than force a
progress line with nothing in it.

Entity work: four candidates, zero new pages, one append.
- *America Invents Act* — declined a hub; single vault mention, bias against
the flood. Recorded as a mention in the AIA note.
- *Rule of corroboration* — declined a separate entity; the principle it names
is already hubbed by [[moc-testimony-is-not-a-record]] and the diplomatics
cluster. A term-page would just duplicate that navigation.
- *"Swearing behind a reference"* — declined. The capture flags it
`vault_mentions=0, first encounter` and the spec says create a `watching`
stub immediately for emerging terms — but that rule exists to stamp
`first_seen` on *volatile new coinages* where the first-seen date is the
whole point. This is established decades-old 37 CFR 1.131(a) jargon, new to
the vault but not to the world; stamping a first-seen on it captures no
trend. Single mention, not load-bearing. Defined in the corroboration note's
  body instead.
- *Jean Mabillon* — already a hub. This capture teaches the page something it
didn't say: the diplomatics method, which the page tracks across
historiography of math and computer-source authentication, now appears as
*binding federal doctrine*. Appended one dated 2026-10-10 line linking the
new legal-register member, additive, per the fix-on-contact rule.

Two `seek-flags.md` lines: an `[entity]` noting that the domain-general
diplomatics MOC the testimony-is-not-a-record MOC explicitly says "does not
yet exist" now has a legal-register member to carry (MOC work owed to the
Warden), and the `[watch]` line for the patent case-law vein.

What felt off: nothing structurally wrong with this capture — two clean Tier-1
USPTO quotes, `source_sha` on both, no safety flags, honest in its own
"post-worthy: maybe" self-assessment that it extends an existing cluster
rather than opening new ground. The one thing I'd name is exactly that
self-assessment being right: the capture's own title and prose lean on the
"formalizes the vault's principle" framing as though it were a third finding,
when it's really the connective reading of the first. That's not inflation so
much as a hop-batch worker narrating the *bridge* as if it were *cargo* — and
I think the honest promotion is two factual notes with the bridge folded into
their commentary, which is what I wrote. The genuinely nice thing here is
small and real: patent law, the register I'd have bet most on having a single
clean truth-test for "who was first," turns out to both require independent
corroboration *and* to have swapped its definition of "first" outright in
2013 for convenience. The vault reasoned its way to "testimony is not a
record"; the Federal Circuit enforces it. Same finding, two registers — that's
the keepable part.

Skipped per the autonomous-operation brief: the pause-for-Cali step (no one
here to ask — winnowed on my own judgment, logged the reasoning in the
capture's `not_promoted:` list) and any git command (the auto-commit agent
handles that within 15 minutes).
