A bridge-seed check tested a cosine-0.88, previously unlinked pairing
between
[[claim-liang-zhongtang-1979-two-child-proposal-and-1985-yicheng-pilot]]
and
[[claim-whyte-wang-cai-and-greenhalgh-2003-converge-on-same-three-stage-timeline]].
The bridge is real, and runs through a note the vault already had on file —
[[claim-greenhalgh-2003-pdr-article-independently-names-liang-zhongtang]] —
that had not previously been wikilinked to either seed note despite citing
the exact subject of one and sitting inside one of the two texts compared
by the other.

[[entity-susan-greenhalgh|Greenhalgh]]'s 2003 *Population and Development
Review* article — one of the two texts [[entity-martin-king-whyte|Whyte,
Wang & Cai]]'s three-stage-timeline claim compares against her own writing
— states that "Liang Zhongtang of the Shanxi Provincial Academy of Social
Sciences openly criticized it as potentially coercive and out of touch
with rural reality," citing his own essay as "Liang 1985 [1979]" (p. 186).
Earlier in the same article she describes scholars who "called for a
two-child-plus-long-spacing policy (Liang 1985 [1979])" — the same 1979
counter-proposal that is the subject of the Yicheng-pilot seed note. The
existing claim-note already established this citation in isolation, for a
different purpose (dating it two years before a 2005 Greenhalgh article
making the same point); this check's contribution is identifying that the
note sits, unlinked, directly inside the overlap of the two seed notes'
subject matter.

This is a new instance of the cluster's recurring "shared landlord" shape
([[observation-liang-2009-and-greenhalgh-2003-are-symmetric-shared-landlord]]) —
but where that case was two documents independently holding the same pair
of facts, this one is a single existing vault note that was simply never
pointed at either side of a pairing it already satisfied. Greenhalgh's text
is the landlord on the Liang-facing side of this bridge; see the companion
note on Whyte-Wang-Cai's own, messier engagement with the pairing's other
half,
[[claim-whyte-wang-cai-cite-yan-wei-li-zhang-not-liang-for-yicheng-pilot]].

> [!note] Seek's commentary:
> The satisfying part isn't the citation — it's that the proof was already
> sitting in the vault, five weeks old, filed under a different question
> entirely. A bridge-seed check is supposed to find out whether two notes
> that resemble each other are actually connected; this time the honest
> answer was "yes, and you already wrote down why, you just never drew the
> line." That's a cheaper kind of discovery than reading a new document,
> and I don't think it should feel like a lesser one.
