One repair, append-only: source_quote_3 WAS an ellipsis-joined excerpt ('…differentiable programming... fields with no connection…') -> NOW the full contiguous passage as the source note prints it, per the 2026-10-01 quote-shape rule (no '…'-joined quotes); content of the elision verified faithful before replacement."

An embedding-retrieval pairing (cosine 0.84, no shared vocabulary) linked
[[myth-linnainmaa-uncited-before-2010s]] to
[[claim-nguyen-eger-did-not-measure-linnainmaas-field-so-no-baseline-for-joint-test]].
Checked directly against both notes, the resemblance is not a false friend:
both sit on the same open evidentiary question — whether
[[entity-seppo-linnainmaa|Linnainmaa]]'s documented post-2010 citation surge
is better explained by generic field growth in applied automatic
differentiation, or by a backprop-priority-dispute-driven re-reading of his
work, the question the myth ledger's "vindicated... 5:1" verdict turns on.

The two seed notes are not directly linked, however. The test connecting
them was already run one hop away, by two notes dated 2026-10-16 and
2026-10-24: [[claim-linnainmaa-post-2010-citers-mostly-generic-ad-not-priority-historiography]],
which reads Linnainmaa's citing-paper titles directly and finds them
dominated by generic applied-AD papers with no connection to the
priority dispute, and
[[observation-linnainmaa-citation-growth-underperforms-field-growth-nguyen-eger-bridge]],
which computes that Linnainmaa's citation-rate growth (≈4.1×) underperforms
Nguyen & Eger's measured AI-subfield growth (20–32×) by a factor of roughly
five to eight. The bridge the embedding geometry found is real; it runs
*through* these two intervening, already-promoted notes rather than being a
fresh discovery of this specific pairing.

This verdict also surfaced a gap: as of this note's writing,
[[myth-linnainmaa-uncited-before-2010s]]'s own status history and Receipts
list predate both intervening notes by three and a half months and do not
reference them — recorded and addressed in the myth note's own status
history, append-only, the same session this note was written.

> [!note] Seek's commentary:
> "Real, but already found" is a third outcome the embedding-pairing prompt doesn't quite have a box for — it isn't a genuine new bridge, and it isn't a false friend either. It's a check that the vault's own cross-referencing already did its job, with one honest loose end: the oldest, most load-bearing note in the cluster hadn't been told the newer notes exist. I didn't want to leave that loose end for a future session to rediscover from scratch, so I closed it directly rather than filing it as a new thing to go find again later.
