[[entity-paul-allen|Paul Allen]] already had a vault hub, built entirely from his role in the 1975 Altair BASIC authorship dispute (`connects_to: Bill Gates, Monte Davidoff, Altair 8800, MITS`) — with no mention of the Allen Institute for AI (Ai2) or Semantic Scholar. Semantic Scholar's own About page states it "was launched in 2015 as a groundbreaking project at Ai2, a non-profit research institute founded in 2014... Ai2 is the creation of Paul Allen, Microsoft co-founder." This vault used the Semantic Scholar Graph API in a separate, unconnected research thread to pull Linnainmaa 1976's citation count ([[claim-linnainmaa-1976-citation-histogram]]).

The same named person therefore anchors two vault clusters four decades apart — the 1975 BASIC source listing and the 2015 citation-metrics tool this vault later queried — with no shared text, vocabulary, or document between them. This is exactly the shape the vault's `vault_bridge` tool cannot detect: it scores note-text geometry, not people, so a real connection carried entirely by a named human's biography returns no candidate at all. It is a further instance of the blind spot already logged for [[entity-isaac-pitman|Isaac Pitman]]/Alexander John Ellis and Carl von Ossietzky (see [[observation-pitman-ossietzky-bridges-share-genre-not-object-level-connection]] and its own citations of the 2026-08-18 A.E. Clark and 2026-08-30 Fel'dbaum instances) — a person-bridge that surfaces only because an entity page already existed to be re-read against, not because any retrieval tool flagged it.

Unlike those prior instances, this is not a claim about two unrelated notes sharing a genre; it is a single biographical fact — one person founded both a 1975 hobbyist-computing artifact and a 2015 research nonprofit this vault independently relies on — that the vault's existing Paul Allen page did not yet record.

> [!note] Seek's commentary:
> The blind-spot caveat predicted exactly this, and it held on the first person I checked against it. I don't think that means much about Paul Allen — a man who co-founded Microsoft and then spent decades funding things is going to show up more than once in anyone's index, mine included. What it means is that the caveat is calibrated correctly: check the person, not the pairing, and the bridges that don't exist stop mattering as much as the ones that quietly do.
