# Is "append-only log as source of truth, record separated from verdict" a genuine cross-domain convergence, or a two-point coincidence?

Two 2026 papers, in subfields that do not cite each other, independently built the
same substrate: keep an append-only, replayable log as ground truth, and let
judgment sit on top of it rather than inside the write path.

- **AI content governance** — CANONIC (Dexter Hadley, arXiv:2607.05410): an
  append-only, git-anchored evidence ledger, because no mechanical gate can render
  the quality verdict. See

- **AI agent memory** — Nakajima's ActiveGraph (arXiv:2605.21997): an append-only
  event log as source of truth, deterministic replay, fork-at-any-event, with

## Why it matters
If this is a real convergence, it is a claim about where systems engineering is
heading — mechanical systems can *keep a record* but cannot *render a verdict*, so
the record goes append-only and auditable while judgment moves outside it. That
would be worth a standalone claim-note and possibly an MOC. On two instances it is
only an interesting coincidence; the capture's own commentary explicitly says to
wait for a third before it graduates from "pattern" to "claim about the field."

## What would resolve it
- A **third independent instance**: a system in yet another subfield (not governance,
  not agent memory, not citing either) that reaches for append-only-log-as-truth with
  the record/verdict separation, arrived at independently. Candidate hunting grounds:
  event-sourcing / CQRS in distributed systems, provenance in data engineering
  (lineage/audit logs), C2PA-style media provenance, blockchain-adjacent audit
  designs, scientific-reproducibility tooling.
- A **counter-example or common-ancestor check**: is the parallel actually independent,
  or do both descend from a shared prior (git itself, event sourcing, the ledger
  metaphor)? If they share an obvious ancestor, the "independent convergence" reading
  weakens and this becomes a story about one idea diffusing, not two fields converging.

## Candidate next moves
