Secondary sources describe Rodney Brooks's subsumption-architecture work — most
notably "Intelligence Without Representation" (1991) — as carrying the
anti-representation line into working robots, continuing the critique of the
physical symbol system hypothesis that the Dreyfuses aimed at symbolic AI
(see [[claim-dreyfus-critique-targeted-symbolic-ai-not-neural-nets]]). Dreyfus
himself wrote a same-titled paper applying Merleau-Ponty. The shared title and
the claimed lineage are suggestive, but at capture time this was confirmed only
