lineages, stasis and unbiased random walk dominate the fitted models while **directional** trends
are rare — a finding that would partially narrow the strong Eldredge–Gould punctuated-equilibrium
claim. Because the capture read this only secondhand (no primary opened) and it is a specific
**quantitative** claim (~250 lineages), it was **not promoted**; a number of this kind must rest on
