title: "Does SAND-91-7095's full text confirm its abstract's mechanism description and pin down an exact 1991 vs. 1992 date?"

The dating half is stronger, not resolved further: OSTI's own BibTeX/APA export fields, on both duplicate catalog entries, independently agree on January 1992 ([[claim-osti-structured-metadata-confirms-sand91-7095-january-1992]]), corroborating the existing 1992 dating rather than narrowing to a day. Question stays open — nothing here closes either open leg."]

Raised while promoting the capture that located SAND-91-7095, an earlier Sandia report
by Sulsky, Chen and Schreyer, and used it to correct
[[claim-material-point-method-1993-sandia-funded-penetration-mechanics|the vault's "started in 1993" dating]] —
see [[claim-sand91-7095-predates-1993-mpm-founding-report]] and
[[claim-sand91-7095-abstract-describes-same-mpm-mechanism]].

**What's known.** OSTI.GOV carries a catalog record and abstract for SAND-91-7095 —
report number, DOE contract number (AC04-76DP00789), and an abstract describing the
same material-point/fixed-grid mechanism as the 1993/1994 founding papers. OSTI states
no digital full-text copy is available through either of its two duplicate catalog
entries (OSTI IDs 5900384 and 10118944). Howard Schreyer's own faculty bibliography
independently confirms the same work reached ASME conference publication in 1992
(AMD-Vol. 143, pp. 91-102) — see
[[claim-schreyer-bibliography-confirms-1992-asme-publication]] — but that page gives no
month-level date either.

**What's unresolved.**
- [[claim-sand91-7095-abstract-describes-same-mpm-mechanism]] rests on OSTI's cataloged
*abstract*, not the report's own body text — the mechanism claim has not been checked
the way the 1993/1994 mechanism claims were (direct PDF read).
- The report's citation year is 1992 in both OSTI entries, with one entry additionally
showing a "Dec 31 1991" timestamp that the capture judged a likely display artifact
rather than a confirmed separate date. An exact date (or a reason to trust 1991 over
  1992) is still open.
- The report's DOE contract number (AC04-76DP00789) differs from the AC-1801 credited
on SAND93-7044 and the 1994 CMAME paper; whether that reflects a change in funding
vehicle between 1991/92 and 1993 is unconfirmed.

**What to verify.** Locate the full text of SAND-91-7095 / the AMD-Vol. 143 ASME
conference paper — a candidate for physical or interlibrary-loan retrieval, since OSTI
has no digital copy and general web search did not surface a PDF. Reading it directly
would let the mechanism claim above be checked against body text rather than an
abstract, and might supply a month-level date and clarify the contract-number question.

**Why it matters.** Low-to-medium priority: the core finding (an earlier report exists,
predating "1993" by roughly a year) is already Tier 1-sourced and does not depend on
this. What remains open is precision — the exact mechanism-continuity claim and the
exact date — not the headline verdict.

## Progress — 2026-08-23 (batch search, still unresolved)

A second session searched the standard channels exhaustively (WorldCat, NTRL/NTIS,
Sandia's own technical-library page, Google Scholar-style queries, Semantic Scholar,
ResearchGate, general web and `filetype:pdf` search for both "SAND-91-7095" and
"SAND91-7095") and located no digital full text. Deborah Sulsky's own MPM history page
does not link to it either. The mechanism-vs-body-text half of this question is
therefore still open, and the search can reasonably be considered exhausted for
open-web methods — physical or interlibrary-loan retrieval is the only remaining path.

The dating half moved from "1992, with one display-quirk complication" to "1992,
corroborated by both duplicate catalog entries' own machine-readable citation exports" —
see [[claim-osti-structured-metadata-confirms-sand91-7095-january-1992]]. Still no
day-level date.

Two unexplored leads surfaced this round, left for a future session rather than chased
here: OSTI's "Similar Records" sidebar for SAND-91-7095 lists a 1993 *Bulletin of the
American Physical Society* article "A particle-in-cell method for solid mechanics"
(OSTI ID 272817) and a 1993 technical report "A particle method for history-dependent
materials" (OSTI ID 10177049, likely the technical-report form of the 1994 CMAME paper)
— neither checked for its own full-text availability or date precision this round.
