vault-facing bridge — "this is punctuated equilibrium in a third domain (legal/regulatory)" — on
the paper's own phrase "regulatory structures exhibit abrupt **phase transitions**." That phrase
came from the abstract; the full text was **not obtained at capture** (the 41MB PDF failed to
extract), so it is unknown whether the paper's "punctuated"/"phase-transition" framing is a
deliberate connection to the biological and organizational literature or an independent
statistical-physics result that merely shares the vocabulary.

**The specific verification.** Read the full text of Chia et al. (2026), "Three Centuries of the
Laws of Cricket Reveal Core Principles of the Evolution of Regulatory Mechanisms"
(arXiv:2607.05586). Confirm:

1. Whether the reference list / discussion cites **Eldredge & Gould (1972)**, **Mayr**, or the
   organizational punctuated-equilibrium authors (**Gersick 1991**, **Tushman & Romanelli**) — i.e.
   whether the metaphor chain is drawn *by the authors* or is the vault's own overlay.
2. What the paper means technically by "abrupt phase transitions" — a fitted statistical-mechanics
   transition (order parameter, criticality) or a descriptive term for discrete jumps in the
   rulebook's structure. This decides whether "phase transition" is load-bearing physics or borrowed
