single source: Léon Bottou's own self-hosted publication list
(leon.bottou.org/papers). That is an authoritative primary bibliographic record,
but it is one source, and the note's load-bearing point — that Yann LeCun and
Yoshua Bengio are among the co-authors — deserves a convergent cross-check, in the
same way [[claim-lecun-1989-two-papers-publication-order]] was pinned down across
dblp, Open Library, and Crossref/OpenAlex.

**What would answer it:**

- Pull the record for "High Quality Document Image Compression with DjVu" from
  **dblp**, **Crossref**, and/or **OpenAlex**, and confirm the full six-author
  roster (Bottou, Haffner, Howard, Simard, Bengio, Le Cun), the venue (*Journal of
  Electronic Imaging*, 7(3)), the page range (410–425), and the year (1998).
- If accessible, check the paper's own author affiliations to confirm the AT&T
  Labs attribution and the "before deep learning" framing.
