claims Maurice Halbwachs's 1925 collective-memory theory is the shared
theoretical ancestor of both Foroughi & Al-Amoudi's interpretive
organizational forgetting and [[entity-alessandro-portelli|Alessandro
Portelli's]] oral-history method. The Foroughi & Al-Amoudi lineage is
reasonably well attested (their paper is described as explicitly
Halbwachs-framed, though see
[[question-verify-foroughi-al-amoudi-2020-primary-quote]] for the quote
itself). The Portelli lineage is not: no primary text confirms whether
Portelli cites Halbwachs directly, or arrives at collective-memory-as-
reconstruction independently through oral-history practice, uninformed by
Halbwachs's sociology.

**What to read.** Portelli's own methodological writing — *The Death of
Luigi Trastulli and Other Stories* (SUNY Press, 1991), especially its
introduction/methodology essay, or his other collected essays on oral
history method — for any citation of Halbwachs or *Les cadres sociaux de la
mémoire*.

**Note.** This question is downstream of

reading Portelli's primary text (that one on the 1949→1953 date
displacement specifically). Once a Portelli primary is in hand for either
question, check both at once rather than fetching it twice.

**On success.** If direct citation is confirmed, clear the
`[unverified-mechanism]` flag on the Halbwachs claim-note and consider
promoting it past `seedling`. If Portelli demonstrably arrived
independently, rewrite the claim as convergent discovery rather than shared
lineage — a distinct and equally interesting finding, not a failure.
