Aikins's 1902 index and full text contain no "Machine," "Boole," "Piano," or "Mechanical" entries tied to Jevons — an absence that, per Cali's review and an independent 2026-10-12 re-sweep, holds across the captured text, not just the index

Aikins's two page-cited engagements with Jevons both land inside the traditional-syllogism block of Elementary Lessons in Logic; the Logic Piano sits two thematic blocks later, under a heading Jevons himself calls "recent"

Jevons's own pedagogical textbook, Elementary Lessons in Logic, describes the Logic Piano in Lesson XXIII (pp.191–201) — sixty to seventy pages past the lessons Aikins quotes to the page

Jevons's own pedagogical logic textbook describes the Logic Piano; Aikins (1902), who quotes that same textbook by page number while rejecting rule-following, never engages with the machine — scope mismatch within one book, not chronological irrelevance

Which of Jevons's own logic texts supplies the 'p. 82'/'p. 83' conversion rules and the eight numbered 'rules of the syllogism' Aikins quotes in his 1902 Principles of Logic?

The 1881 printing's own table of contents independently fixes Elementary Lessons in Logic's pagination (Lesson X at p.81, Lesson XV at p.126), consistent with the page numbers Aikins cites in 1902

Jevons's Elementary Lessons in Logic, Lesson X (pp.81–87), is the text behind Aikins's "Jevons, p. 82" and "Jevons, p. 83" conversion-rule citations

Jevons's Elementary Lessons in Logic, Lesson XV, "The Rules of the Syllogism" (pp.126–131), is the text behind the eight numbered rules Aikins reproduces in his Ch. XVI footnote

Aikins's own 1902 syllogism-rule chapters (Ch. XI, XVI) quote and contest Jevons's stated rules directly, independent of the jingle-fallacy chapter

In Chapter XI of his 1902 Principles of Logic, Aikins quotes Jevons's stated conversion rules verbatim with page citations, then argues in his own words that no such rule can be followed 'blindly'

In Chapter XVI of his 1902 Principles of Logic, Aikins reproduces Jevons's eight numbered 'rules of the syllogism' verbatim in a footnote, then dismisses mechanical rule-following as inferior to his own interpretive method

Aikins's 1902 Preface states, before any chapter begins, that his deductive-logic treatment deliberately omits 'the traditional rules of the syllogism' in favor of his own stated 'principles'

Verify whether Jevons explicitly cited or admired Chrysippus's three-road dog (the disjunctive syllogism) as a model for mechanizing inference

Jevons closed his exposition of 'indirect inference' in Pure Logic (1864) by quoting Chrysippus's three-road dog — in Sir Walter Raleigh's wording, not the ancient Greek

Chrysippus used a hunting dog at a three-way fork to illustrate the disjunctive syllogism (~230 BCE), an early figure of reasoning by elimination
