• The 8-arcminute Mars equant-error figure traces to Kepler's own Astronomia Nova (1609), Ch. 19 — not to Bracco & Provost — but is not yet independently confirmed at Tier 1

• A direct read of Bracco & Provost (2009) finds no 8-arcminute Mars-accuracy figure, despite being Astronomia Ova's cited source for it

• Does an independent source corroborate Astronomia Ova's (arXiv:2610.05358) central result and its ~8-arcminute Mars equant-error figure?

• Moore, Smith & Mertens (2026) construct an orbit family that satisfies Kepler's second law about one point and an exact Ptolemaic equant about a different point simultaneously

• Kepler's 1609 Astronomia Nova records his frustration at the oval orbit's quadrature and his explicit rejection of a near-elliptical 'puffy-cheeked' orbit (the via buccosa)

• Ptolemy's equant model missed Mars's position by about 8 arcminutes — within antiquity's observational reach but outside Tycho Brahe's 1–2 arcminute precision, which is why Kepler had to abandon it
