The campaign that pushed MIT toward divesting its Instrumentation Lab in 1973 was driven by the Science Action Coordinating Committee (SACC), founded in November 1968 by four MIT and Cornell graduate students. SACC organized the March 4, 1969 research stoppage — a day of teach-ins that filled Kresge Auditorium's roughly 1,200 seats and helped set the terms of the era's science-and-conscience debate on campus.

That same Jonathan Kabat is, by all indications, Jon Kabat-Zinn — who earned his MIT PhD in molecular biology in 1971 under Nobel laureate Salvador Luria, founded the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in 1979, and there developed Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), the secular eight-week program that seeded most of clinical mindfulness in Western medicine.
