Andrey Kolmogorov
Soviet mathematician (1903-1987), one of the 20th century's foundational figures in probability theory, and — per Xuenan Cao's 2025 paper — an independent, parallel discoverer of the extrapolation mathematics that Norbert Wiener carried from missile-trajectory prediction into communication engineering.
Matters to this vault as the load-bearing comparison in its new Wiener-to-LLM-hallucination bridge: Kolmogorov's 1939 paper, "Interpolation and Extrapolation of Stationary Series," bears what Cao calls an "almost identical title" to Wiener's own extrapolation work, developed independently on the opposite side of what would become the Iron Curtain (claim-kolmogorov-1939-parallel-extrapolation-theory-cao-2025). A foundational figure in probability and information theory, surprisingly absent from this vault's otherwise dense control-theory and cybernetics history until this session.
