Charles Stark Draper

Founded and, as of the 1969 Pounds Panel report, still directed MIT's Instrumentation Laboratory ("more than 25 years" by that point) — the lab whose inertial-guidance work for Polaris/Poseidon and the Apollo Guidance Computer made it, per the MIT Technology Review, one of MIT's two largest defense laboratories, and whose 1973 severance from MIT produced the Charles Stark Draper Laboratory, Inc. that still carries his name. He matters to this vault as the single named person the entire Instrumentation-Lab/Draper-spinoff thread anchors to: the 1973 divestiture, the 1969 Pounds Panel review that preceded it, and the lab's Cold-War weapons work all trace back to the laboratory he built and led.
