Czesław Olech
Polish mathematician, specialist in control theory and ordinary differential equations, who chaired the Organizing Committee of the 1983 Warsaw International Congress of Mathematicians.
Matters to this vault as the direct negotiator on the IMU's side of its 1979 crisis with the Soviet National Committee: per Olli Lehto's institutional history, Olech travelled to Moscow in November 1979 on an unofficial invitation, met with Vinogradov and Pontryagin, and personally signed the resulting six-point protocol that recorded the two Soviet officials' accusation of "Zionist" influence on IMU consultative committees — not as an endorser of that content, but as the Polish counterparty who had to carry the minute away.
