Derek de Solla Price

Historian of science and founding figure of quantitative bibliometrics, who coined "invisible college" for informal networks of frequently-collaborating researchers and formalized cumulative-advantage processes in citation statistics. Matters to this vault as the bibliometric counterpart to Robert K. Merton's sociological account of the same phenomenon — Merton's 1988 paper (the vault's primary text for the Matthew Effect and obliteration by incorporation) cites him repeatedly, alongside Merton's own bibliometric collaborators, as the parallel quantitative tradition.
