Gerd Gigerenzer

Psychologist and founder of the fast-and-frugal-heuristics research programme and of ecological rationality — the view that reasoning is well-adapted simple heuristics matched to environmental structure, reaching good-enough rather than optimal solutions, built directly on Simon's bounded rationality. He is the vault's standing representative of the anti-optimizing pole in the "the yardstick was wrong, not the reasoner" family, defined against the Bayesian-optimization accounts (Kahneman–Tversky heuristics-and-biases on one side, Oaksford & Chater's rational analysis on the other). His camp's on-record position is that "ecological rationality is not optimization."
