Johann Konrad Dippel

German theologian, physician, and alchemist (1673–1734) in whose Berlin laboratory Johann Jacob Diesbach produced the accidental blue precipitate later known as Prussian blue in 1706. Separately, and much less reliably, Dippel is a folklore-adjacent candidate for the inspiration behind Mary Shelley's Frankenstein — a connection this vault has flagged but declined to promote for lack of sourcing.

Matters to this vault as the second name in the canonical accidental-discovery story, whose specific role turned out to need revision on closer archival reading: modern reconstruction credits the chemical trigger to his laboratory assistant's (Rösser's) mislabeling of a residue, not a direct hand-off of contaminated potash from Dippel himself, and the earliest surviving (1706) document on the discovery does not mention him at all.
