Joseph Weizenbaum
German-American computer scientist at MIT who created ELIZA (1966), the pattern-matching program whose best-known script, DOCTOR, simulated a Rogerian psychotherapist. Matters to this vault as DOCTOR's author: the program held a real 1972 ARPANET conversation with Kenneth Colby's PARRY, preserved verbatim in RFC 439.
