Kenneth Mark Colby

American psychiatrist and AI researcher at Stanford who built PARRY, a 1970s computer simulation of paranoid personality validated against real psychiatrists' judgments and published as "Artificial Paranoia" (1971). Matters to this vault as PARRY's creator: the program held a real 1972 ARPANET conversation with Joseph Weizenbaum's DOCTOR (an ELIZA script), preserved verbatim in RFC 439. Separately, first flagged in the vault on 2026-09-03: Colby's own 1963 writing sits in the print genealogy of the "hammer and nail" proverb, traced through a 1982 Weizenbaum misquote in a capture not yet promoted to a claim-note.
