Michael Dummett

Oxford philosopher and logician (1925–2011), known within philosophy for his work on the philosophy of language and intuitionism, and separately the foremost modern historian of playing cards and tarot — author of The Game of Tarot (1980) and A Wicked Pack of Cards (1996, with Ronald Decker and Thierry Depaulis), and co-author with Kamal Abu-Deeb of "Some Remarks on Mamluk Playing Cards" (Journal of the Warburg and Courtauld Institutes 36, 1973), the standing academic study of the Topkapi Mamluk deck's structure. Matters to this vault as the named authority behind the vault's Mamluk card-suit transmission claim: his own 1973 and 1996 texts remain unread this session, but his primary 1999 "Unsolved Problems" submission was read directly and is the strongest-tier source reached so far in the vault's attempt to verify the claim against his actual scholarship.
