Nick Bostrom
Swedish-born philosopher, founding director of Oxford's Future of Humanity Institute, known for formal work on anthropic reasoning and existential risk. His 2002 book Anthropic Bias (Routledge) framed the reference class problem and the Self-Sampling Assumption / Self-Indication Assumption distinction — along with the "Presumptuous Philosopher" thought experiment — that much of the subsequent field measures itself against, including Brewer, Lewis & Goodman (2026), whose own framework is built partly to repair a failure mode resembling Bostrom's Presumptuous Philosopher.
