Yolande Lucire

Yolande Lucire is an Australian psychiatrist who, during the 1980s Australian repetitive-strain-injury epidemic, argued that "RSI" was a psychogenic rather than an organic disorder — a syndrome she read as containing elements of both somatization and conversion. In this vault she is the actually-named, actually-quoted proponent behind the "RSI is psychological" attribution that a secondary source had compressed into a three-person list; John Quintner's 1991 RSI history names her at least four times and quotes her directly, far more than any other figure on the psychogenic side.

She matters here for one sentence: she is the clinician whose 1980s psychogenic reading of RSI locates the condition's decisive psychologization nearly a century after Gowers's somatic "occupation neuroses," complicating any account that pins the turn on the fin-de-siècle terminology alone.
