The cricket-Laws branch now rests three claim-notes on a single unrefereed preprint (arXiv:2607.05586) with no independent corroboration — what confirms it before the branch grows further?
As of 2026-08-01 three claim-notes rest on Chia et al. (2026), "Three Centuries of the Laws of Cricket Reveal Core Principles of the Evolution of Regulatory Mechanisms" (arXiv:2607.05586v1) — an unrefereed July 2026 preprint from one author group:

That is the single-source concentration cap (sources.md, Cali 2026-07-29: no more than three claim-notes may rest on a single unrefereed primary until at least one independent source corroborates it). No independent source — different author group, different venue — has yet confirmed the paper's findings. So the branch is at its ceiling: the next finding from this preprint does not become a claim-note but is routed here, and the existing three stay exactly as they are (seedling, honest).
The specific verification. Find independent corroboration for the paper's load-bearing empirical claims — the exponential-in-time/sublinear-in-matches rulebook scaling, and the 1939 branching-factor discontinuity typed as a first-order dynamical phase transition. Independent means not: a later paper by the same SFI/Youn cluster, a press summary of this preprint, or a revised arXiv version. A genuinely independent test would be another group applying the same longitudinal-structure analysis to a different rule corpus, or the peer-reviewed version of this paper once it lands.
Why it matters. The cap exists because the failure mode is invisible one note at a time: each cricket note is correctly sourced, correctly flagged, correctly seedling — while the branch as a whole quietly becomes a structure the vault believes because it is large. Corroboration discharges the cap (record it in the notes' audit_status and the branch may grow); contradiction is the more interesting finding and a note in its own right.

Its three findings are recorded here rather than as new claim-notes, because the cap's prescribed output for "the next finding from this preprint" is a routed corroboration entry, not branch growth — and all three are about the branch's confirmability, not new world-claims:

No citation, replication, or commentary has surfaced. The arXiv abstract page (2607.05586, sha
efb7b8ad…b86493a5, Tier 1) shows a single submission event — "[v1] Mon, 6 Jul 2026 19:34:40 UTC" — with no journal-reference and no DOI beyond arXiv's own DataCite registration, and no later version. A direct Google Scholar search on the exact title (sha7345d95f…8fea53345, Tier 2) returns "1 result (0.20 sec)" — the preprint itself — with no "Cited by." Semantic Scholar's citation API returned HTTP 429 (rate-limited, incomplete — not a negative), and NASA ADS / INSPIRE-HEP were not queried. So this is an absence finding from a same-day search, not an exhaustive citation-database audit — but the paper clears none of the markers (a citing paper, a journal acceptance, an independent dataset reproduction, a critical review) that would discharge the cap. -
The companion paper is now published, and still fails the independence test. The same-cluster lead this question already named — Jeong et al., U.S. Legal Code complexity — resolves to arXiv:2507.14342 (sha
3410e4e0…6e588b81b07b, Tier 1; authors Dawoon Jeong, James Holehouse, Jisung Yoon, Chris Kempes, Geoffrey B. West, Hyejin Youn), published as a dataset descriptor in Scientific Data on 6 January 2026, DOI 10.1038/s41597-025-06313-w (per the SFI news release, sha4d5341d2…20ca6, Tier 1). This upgrades the prior "in press" note to "published" — but does not discharge the cap: four of the cricket paper's eight authors overlap (Holehouse, Youn, Kempes, West), and Scientific Data reviewed a U.S.-Code dataset-and-methods descriptor, not the cricket paper's phase-transition claims. Same research program's track record, not a second group. It remains the near-miss to watch — the shape a future promoter is most likely to mistake for corroboration. -
The underlying dataset's custodian is not external to the author team either. A full-text read of the preprint (sha
5beeeaa7…233a05e3c2, Tier 1) lists co-author Jonny Singer's affiliation as "Marylebone Cricket Club, Lord's Cricket Ground, London, UK" — the MCC being the sole body that has instituted cricket's Laws since 1787 ("the Laws of Cricket have for last 239 years been in-stituted by the same governing authority, the Marylebone Cricket Club"). So the single institution that holds and could independently re-verify the 268-year documentary record the dataset is built from is one of the eight affiliations on the paper. This does not impugn the data — MCC-affiliated archival access is plausibly useful — but it means the archive itself cannot serve as the cap's "different author group, different venue" corroboration.
Disposition: question stays open. Nothing found this sweep meets the independence bar (different author group and different venue). What would discharge it, unchanged: an independent group re-deriving the paper's structural statistics from the public editions of the Laws (or finding the same phase-transition signature in an unrelated long-running rule corpus), a critical citation or commentary, or the peer-reviewed version of the cricket paper itself landing.
