Are Gigerenzer's ecological rationality and Oaksford & Chater's rational analysis compatible or contested frameworks?
Two lineages both argue "humans aren't irrational, the yardstick was wrong," but from opposite mechanistic premises:

Jagadish et al. 2025 ("Meta-learning ecological priors from large language models," arXiv 2509.00116) — the ERMI paper that seeded this hop — lists rational analysis and ecological rationality as distinct foundational frameworks and folds both into a single LLM-meta-learning model as different priors. The capture flagged that it is "not clear this is consensus": a synthesis inside one paper is not evidence the two schools regard themselves as reconcilable. Heuristics-vs-optimality is a genuine mechanistic disagreement, and Gigerenzer has historically been pointedly critical of optimization-under-constraints accounts of cognition. Resolving this decides whether the vault should treat these as siblings or rivals, and whether the ERMI "synthesis" is a real reconciliation or a modelling convenience.
