Does ChainQueen (2019) or Bolliger et al. (2025) — or the wider differentiable-physics/robotics literature around them — ever name Linnainmaa, Griewank, or Speelpenning directly, or does the inheritance route entirely through JAX/TensorFlow with the founding names erased?

A second, independent 2025 paper (Bolliger et al.) confirms differentiable MPM is a standing technique, closing a 26–42 year gap from Linnainmaa's algorithm and SAND-91-7095 to robotics applications

ChainQueen's differentiable Material Point Method simulator back-propagates through MPM using the reverse-mode technique Linnainmaa's 1976 algorithm first described

ChainQueen's own reference list directly cites the Sulsky/Schreyer material-point-method lineage as MPM's origin — a traceable citation chain, not a coincidental resemblance

Capture: Does a genuine mechanism connect Linnainmaa's 1976 citation histogram and OSTI's structured-metadata confirmation of SAND-91-7095's date, or is the cosine-0.84 pairing a false friend?
