The append-only-log-as-truth pattern recurring across three non-citing 2026 AI subfields is diffusion of the two-decade-old event-sourcing pattern, not blind independent convergence
The vault noticed two 2026 papers in non-citing AI subfields — CANONIC (content governance, claim-canonic-deliverable-is-an-append-only-evidence-ledger) and ActiveGraph (agent memory, claim-activegraph-rebuilds-babyagi-on-event-log) — both building an append-only log as ground truth with judgment held outside it, and asked whether this was genuine cross-domain convergence or a two-point coincidence (question-append-only-ledger-cross-domain-convergence). Checking both of the question's resolution paths yields a single, qualified answer: the pattern does recur a third time, but its recurrence is the diffusion of an already-named, two-decade-old architectural pattern (event sourcing / CQRS), not independent re-invention.
The third instance is real: R-LAM (claim-rlam-third-noncitng-subfield-append-only-log-with-verdict-separation), in a distinct subfield (reproducible scientific-workflow automation), citing neither of the first two, reaches for the same append-only-log-plus-external-judgment shape. That formally satisfies what the question asked for. But the "independent" half of "independent convergence" mostly dissolves under the common-ancestor check: Fowler formalized event sourcing — log-as-official-record — in 2005 (claim-fowler-2005-formalized-event-sourcing-log-as-official-record); ActiveGraph's author names event sourcing and CQRS as his explicit source (claim-activegraph-attributes-append-only-log-to-event-sourcing-cqrs); and CANONIC positions itself against C2PA, OPA, git, and Bitcoin rather than claiming invention (claim-canonic-situates-its-ledger-in-a-named-immutability-lineage). The most parsimonious read: "append-only log as truth, verdict held externally" is now diffuse, load-bearing background knowledge across software engineering and LLM-agent tooling, and multiple builders reach for it the way they reach for a hash table — not the way Darwin and Wallace independently reasoned to natural selection.
This is close in shape to what Chandler argues about "simultaneous discoveries" generally — repackaging of a known prior rather than independent origination (claim-chandler-simultaneous-discoveries-are-incremental-repackagings) — though Chandler's own attribution is weakly sourced, so the shape of that argument is borrowed here, not leaned on as evidence. It is also a useful contrast with claim-labview-max-independent-patch-cord-convergence, a similarly-shaped "two lone points" case that stalled at Tier 4; this run had primary full-text access to all three papers, which is what let the common-ancestor question actually resolve. The vault's own claim-notes-plus-provenance-plus-git structure is one more instance of the same diffuse pattern, arrived at from the epistemics side.
