Graham & Dezhina's Science in the New Russia (2008) is a real scholarly work, but its 'elite left first' argument is known to the vault only through Pronskikh's paraphrase

Science in the New Russia: Crisis, Aid, Reform, by Loren R. Graham (MIT/Harvard) and Irina Dezhina (Institute of World Economy and International Relations, Moscow), is confirmed to exist: Indiana University Press, published May 2008. The publisher's own summary says the book "tells the dramatic story of the near collapse of Russian science in the mid-1990s and of subsequent domestic and international efforts to reform and reenergize scientific activity in Russia," noting that when the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991 "the major financial supports for the scientific community were eliminated, with resulting 'brain drain'" — but that summary does not itself state an "elite left first" thesis about émigré career premiums by arrival cohort.

The characterization of Graham & Dezhina's position as "elite left first" — that the earliest émigrés were disproportionately the scientific elite, so early success reflects a talent gradient among who left — is known to this vault only through Pronskikh's own paraphrase of the book he is arguing against. Attempts to reach the authors' text directly (Google Books preview, adjacent excerpts) did not surface a quotable passage in Graham & Dezhina's own words during this search pass.

This matters because it is exactly the load-bearing move the vault's corroboration question asks to check: whether Pronskikh's "structural, not talent" thesis genuinely defeats the account he names, or restates it in a form convenient to rebut.
