Arthur L. Norberg

Historian of computing and, from 1980, director of the Charles Babbage Institute at the University of Minnesota, where he built an oral-history program documenting ARPA/DARPA-funded computing research and the people who ran it. This vault has, so far indirectly, relied on his interviewing work as a primary source: Roland & Shiman's institutional history quotes his 20 April 1989 interview with Michael Dertouzos (the "I got on the horn and started screaming" recollection in claim-cooper-privately-doubted-fifth-generation-threat-used-as-lever), and a 2026-10-11 capture read his 3 September 1993 interview with Robert Cooper (CBI OH 255) directly. Norberg is the interviewer whose questions shape what this vault's primary record of 1980s DARPA history contains or omits.
