George Lakoff

Cognitive linguist whose Metaphors We Live By (with Mark Johnson, 1980) argued that abstract reasoning runs on conceptual metaphor, and who extended that machinery into political cognition — the "strict father" vs. "nurturant parent" family frames. The vault keeps him as a hub because his metaphor-as-reasoning work is a recurring node: it seeds a cross-domain "durable structures resist reframing" pattern, it is the origin of software engineering's "technical debt" metaphor, and he is the "Lakoff" pole of the recurring frame-semantics / framing-effect independence question. Notably, Lakoff credits the technical term "frame semantics" to Fillmore, not himself.
