Joseph Raphson

Newton's disciple whose posthumous 1715 History of Fluxions used Newton's own papers and his correspondence with Leibniz to assert Newton's priority in the calculus dispute — the same evidentiary move as Wallis's 1685 Harriot-Descartes ruling, applied directly to the paradigm case of scientific-priority adjudication, decades before Ranke.
