Ludwik Rajchman

Polish physician and public-health administrator (1881–1965) who directed the League of Nations Health Organization from 1921 and, in December 1946, became the founding chairman of UNICEF, serving unpaid until 1950. His international career ended within a few years via pressure from both Cold War blocs — a US McCarthy-era subpoena and a Polish revocation of his diplomatic passport.
