Jay Forrester

American engineer (1918–2016) who invented magnetic-core computer memory at MIT in the early 1950s and went on to found System Dynamics, a computer-simulation method for modeling feedback in economic, urban, and industrial systems. His 1969 Urban Dynamics and 1971 World Dynamics — the latter commissioned after he convened a 1970 MIT conference "organized for the Club of Rome" — argued that systems models could produce policy-relevant conclusions that ran against conventional wisdom.
