Ludwik Silberstein

Physicist whose 1938 JOSA paper, "Investigations on the intrinsic properties of the color domain" (JOSA 28(3), 63–85), is cited by Bujack et al. (2025) as the earliest identified precedent for distinguishing straight lines from geodesic (shortest) paths in color space — i.e., recognizing that perceptual color space is not flat. Predates Judd (1968) by three decades and is, on the vault's current evidence, the earliest source in the color-curvature lineage that eventually runs through Urban et al. (2007) to Ahrens et al. (2024). Known to the vault so far only via citation; his own 1938 paper has not yet been read directly.
