Richard Kuhn

Austrian-German biochemist (1900–1967) known for his work on carotenoids and vitamins, awarded the 1938 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Not to be confused with Thomas Kuhn, the historian and philosopher of science already in this vault under the same surname — two unrelated people.

Matters to this vault as the second confirmed non-political scientist trapped by the same 1937 Nazi decree that reached Gerhard Domagk: the Nobel Foundation's own page on his prize carries sentence structure nearly identical to Domagk's, describing a forced decline "caused by the authorities of his country" with the medal received only later.
