Xu Guozhi
Chinese engineer named in two independent 2025 accounts as Qian Xuesen's co-founder of China's first operations-research group, at the China Academy of Sciences' Mechanics Institute.
Matters to this vault as the fixed point the two accounts disagree around: Gary Zhexi Zhang's 2025 essay dates Qian and Xu's group to 1961 and names Hua Luogeng as a co-founder alongside Xu, while Wang Hongzhe's 2025 primary chapter dates the same group to 1956, with Xu as Qian's sole co-founder, and describes Hua's own 1958 lab as a separate institution that later absorbed Qian's group in 1960 (claim-wang-hongzhe-dates-qian-1956-operations-research-group-separate-from-1962-lab). Distinct from Guan Zhaozhi, co-founder of the later, separate 1962 cybernetics laboratory.
