Isaacs's 1965 preface — in which Rufus Isaacs recounts seeing Pontryagin's book "just a few days" after completing his own manuscript — performs the move observation-priority-adjudication-is-documentary-source-criticism names as the vault's diplomatics cluster: authenticating an origin-claim by comparing dated primary sources rather than resting on a received attribution, a method traced to Jean Mabillon's 1681 founding of diplomatics. Two existing vault claims already instantiate the cluster outside Werbos — Wallis (1685) dating Harriot against Descartes and Raphson (1715) dating Newton against Leibniz — and moc-testimony-is-not-a-record builds the deep single-instance map of a third: Werbos's own priority narrative, where the cluster's move is performed by the claimant himself rather than a later historian.
